A flying ace, fighter ace or air ace is a military aviator credited with shooting down five or more enemy aircraft during aerial combat. The exact number of aerial victories required to officially qualify as an ace is varied, but is usually considered to be five or more. The concept of the "ace" emerged in 1915 during World War I, at the same time as aerial dogfighting. It was a propaganda term intended to provide the home front with a cult of the hero in what was otherwise a war of attrition. The individual actions of aces were widely reported and the image was disseminated of the ace as a chivalrous knight reminiscent of a bygone era. Cathryn R. Nagler is an American immunologist. She is the Bunning Family Professor in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, the Department of Pathology, and the college at the University of Chicago. Nagler is also the co-founder and president of the startup company ClostraBio, Inc. In 2004, Nagler and her colleagues discovered that peanuts provoked anaphylaxis only in mice with a mutated TLR4 receptor, not in genetically related strains with a normal TLR4. Later, Nagler and her colleagues identified significant differences between the gut bacteria of infants who had an allergy to cow's milk and healthy infants. Ellen Torelle Nagler (, Torelle; June 11, 1870 – August 14, 1965) was an American biologist, author, and lecturer. She originated a method of teaching science whereby her presentation of the subject followed a definite order of procedure; each object was studied first as an individual entity, and then as a part of the entire living universe. She was editor of the biological and chemical articles in the ''Standard Reference Work'', an encyclopedia for young people, and of the zoological articles for the ''New Student Reference Work'' (1919). Her ''Plant and Animal Children-How They Grow'' was published in 1912 and had further editions. Nagler was a recipient of the Eistedfod Prize. Eric Nagler (born June 1, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American musician and television personality known primarily for his work on Canadian children's television series such as ''The Elephant Show'' and ''Eric's World''. Biography Initially, Nagler was a folk musician in the United States, and in 1966 he marched through Mississippi with Martin Luther King Jr., encouraging people to register to vote. He married fellow musician Martha Beers in 1966. Due to their conscientious objection to the Vietnam War, the couple moved to Toronto in 1968 in order to “avoid” the draft. Georg Kaspar Nagler (January 6, 1801 in Obersüßbach – January 20, 1866 in Munich) was a German art historian and art writer. Life and work Georg Kaspar Nagler, who came from a poor background studied from 1815 at the Wilhelmsgymnasium, Munich (today). From 1823 he studied philology and natural sciences at the local lyceum, finally receiving in 1829 a doctorate to become Dr. phil. at the University of Erlangen. Hans Gerald Nagler (10 December 1929 – 23 July 2022) was a Swedish businessman and human rights activist. Gerald Nagler was the son of the Austrian Jewish businessman Siegmund Nagler. The family moved from Vienna to Stockholm in 1931, where he grew up and graduated in 1948. He worked in, and later took over, the wholesale and import company for instruments and optical equipment founded by his father. In 1957 he became Managing Director of Handels AB Urania Stockholm. Herminia Naglerowa (sometimes wrote under the penname Jan Stycz, born 28 October 1890 in Zaliski near Brody, died 9 October 1957 in London) was a Polish writer and publicist. Naglerowa studied history at the University of Lwów where she got her PhD. Subsequently she worked as a teacher, at first (1919) in Warsaw. Her first poems were published in the Viennese Kurier Polski in 1915.
