Naci Özgüç
Naci Özgüç (born 1964) is a Turkish conductor. He is chief conductor of the Ankara Opera, Ankara State Opera and Ballet Orchestra of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet. His mother is the soprano and voice instructor at the State Conservatory Müfide Özgüç. He premiered Fazıl Say's ''Nazım'' and Turgay Erdener's operettas ''İstanbulname'' and ''Mi’den Dört Bölüm''. His discography includes a recording of Ahmed Adnan Saygun's Oratorium Yunus Emre with Jugendchor Osnabrück, and the Osnabrück SO, for the DreyerGaido label in 2011. Ankara Opera
Ankara Opera House ( tr, Opera Sahnesi) of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet is the largest of the three venues for opera and ballet in Ankara, Turkey, the other two being ''Leyla Gencer Sahnesi'' in Ostim and ''Operet Sahnesi'' (Operetta Theater) in Sıhhiye. The building was originally designed by the Turkish architect Şevki Balmumcu as an exhibition center, who came first in an international competition for the project in 1933. It was later converted into an opera house by the Germany, German architect Paul Bonatz, and started serving this function on April 2, 1948. The same building also serves as a theatre venue for the Turkish State Theatres under the name ''Büyük Tiyatro''. The construction of a new main opera house for Ankara, in the vicinity of the original and of considerably larger capacity, is underway since 2005. Fazıl Say
Fazıl Say (; born 14 January 1970 in Ankara) is a Turkish pianist and composer. Life and career Fazıl Say was born in 1970. His father, Ahmet Say was an author and musicologist. His mother, Gürgün Say was a pharmacist. His grandfather Fazıl Say with whom he shares the same name with was a member of the Spartakusbund. Say was a child prodigy, who was able to do basic arithmetic with 4-digit numbers at the age of two. His father, having found out that he was playing the melody of "Daha Dün Annemizin" (Turkish version of Ah! vous dirai-je, maman) on a makeshift flute with no prior training, enlisted the help of Ali Kemal Kaya, an oboist and family friend. At the age of three, Say started his piano lessons under the tutelage of pianist Mithat Fenmen. Turgay Erdener
Turgay Erdener (Gümüşhane, 15 June 1957) is a contemporary Turkish composer of classical music. He first studied mandolin then entered into the piano department at Ankara State Conservatory (ADK). He has taught composition at the conservatory since 1979. He is married to the Ankara State Opera and Ballet soloist soprano Selva Erdener who has premiered his song cycle ''Sen sen sen'' (You you you) and ''Afife'' a ballet with songs based on the life of actress Afife Jale. Ahmed Adnan Saygun
Ahmet Adnan Saygun (; 7 September 1907 – 6 January 1991) was a Turkish composer, musicologist and writer on music. One of a group of composers known as the Turkish Five who pioneered western classical music in Turkey, his works show a mastery of Western musical practice, while also incorporating traditional Turkish folk songs and culture. When alluding to folk elements he tends to spotlight one note of the scale and weave a melody around it, based on a Turkish mode. His extensive output includes five symphonies, five operas, two piano concertos, concertos for violin, viola and cello, and a wide range of chamber and choral works. Yunus Emre () also known as Derviş Yunus (Yunus the Dervish) (1238–1328) (Old Anatolian Turkish: يونس امره) was a Turkish folk poet and Islamic Sufi mystic who greatly influenced Turkish culture. His name, ''Yunus'', is the Muslim equivalent to the English name ''Jonah''. He wrote in Old Anatolian Turkish, an early stage of Turkish. The UNESCO General Conference unanimously passed a resolution declaring 1991, the 750th anniversary of the poet's birth, International Yunus Emre Year.
