NYS Coalition Of Special Act School Districts
The Coalition of Special Act School Districts is a support group for special act school districts operating in New York State. Its chief purpose is to facilitate the views of a branch of New York State public schools that adhere to the guidelines established by legislative special acts that created them to meet the unique needs of students falling undeTitle I D (neglected and delinquent minors)of NCLB and offer a full or partial residential placement while providing the educational needs of this struggling population. Many of the residents from these communities are assigned to these districts through the court system, committees on special education referrals and social service placements from nearby orphanages and group homes. Terminology These districts are not considered charter schools but instead, completely state-funded public school districts. In addition, they are not the same as Private or State-Run schools. NCLB
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was a U.S. Act of Congress that reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; it included Title I provisions applying to disadvantaged students. It supported standards-based education reform based on the premise that setting high standards and establishing measurable goals could improve individual outcomes in education. The Act required states to develop assessments in basic skills. To receive federal school funding, states had to give these assessments to all students at select grade levels. The act did not assert a national achievement standard—each state developed its own standards. Randolph Academy Union Free School District is a school district which covers campuses of a residential and day institution with locations in Randolph, New York, Randolph and Hamburg, New York, Hamburg in New York State. It is a "special act" school district that only includes specific institutions which provide services to children. The Randolph location includes both day and boarding students, while the Hamburg location only has day students. History The Randolph Common School District #11 was created in the 1950s to provide educational services to the Randolph Children's Home. Greenburgh-Graham Union Free School District
Greenburgh-Graham Union Free School District (GGUFSD) is a special act school district in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. It teaches disabled and at risk students, with some of them living in a boarding facility. In 2017, its enrollment was 300. It is divided into the following: * Ziccolela (ZIC) Elem School * Ziccolela Middle School * Martin Luther King (MLK) High School The district was established in 1967. The district cooperated with the Graham Windham agency, which operated The Graham School. In 2020, about 120 people had jobs in the school. The school was scheduled to close in fall 2020. Jess Dannhauser, the CEO, stated that the school was going to close but that the COVID-19 pandemic in New York State accelerated the closure. Hopevale Union Free School District
Hopevale Union Free School District was a school district covering a single educational institution in Hamburg, New York. Hopevale Inc., a social services agency, maintained a residential and day institution for students in grades 7-12 who had difficulty in mainstream educational environments. It was affiliated with Erie 1 BOCES. History Sisters of Our Lady of Charity created a women's orphan and care facility in Buffalo, New York in 1855. This evolved to Hopevale, Inc. The school occupied its campus in Hamburg in 1971. The New York State Legislature created a "Special Act Public School District" to provide educational services. The school continued to take only girls as boarders, but its day services at Hamburg were co-gender. The final school building was built in 1992. The district retained the older gymnasium facility.
