NRFL Women's Championship
The Northern Regional Football League Women's Championship, currently known as Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Women's Championship for sponsorship reasons, is a semi-professional New Zealand association football league competition. The league began in 1974 as NRFL Women's Division Two until 1992 when it was dissolved. On four separate occasions since, there were plate competitions of the NRFL Women's Premiership with the winners considered Division Two winners. In 2023, after the restructuring of New Zealand football leagues in 2021, the league was reestablished as the NRFL Women's Championship. The league includes football clubs located in the northern part of the North Island, with clubs from the Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty provinces. The league sits at step 3 of the New Zealand football pyramid. Waikato () is a Regions of New Zealand, local government region of the upper North Island of New Zealand. Papamoa FC
Pāpāmoa FC is a football club based in Papamoa Beach, Tauranga, New Zealand. They currently play in the NRFL Southern Conference. History The club were formed in 1995, by Alan Bright and Iain Cargill. The crest features the sun, sea and the sand, representing the clubs philosophies. The club has competed in the Chatham Cup seven times first competing in 1999, with their best appearance being in 2018 and 2022 where they reached the fourth round. In 2018 they were knocked out by Birkenhead United losing 5–1, and in 2022 they lost 3–0 to Hamilton Wanderers. Pāpāmoa signed an agreement in 2023 with Tauranga City to form a shared-entity FC Tauranga Moana. Tauranga City AFC
Tauranga City AFC is a football club based in Tauranga, New Zealand. The men's and women's teams currently both compete in the NRFL Championship. Club history Tauranga City AFC was formed in 1964, in 2000 they changed their name to Tauranga City United when Mt Maunganui AFC folded and the Tauranga City Council relocated the club to the formers ground at Links Avenue, Mt Maunganui. They dropped the United from their name again in 2017, returning to their original name ‘Tauranga City AFC’ when they merged with local junior side 'Mount Maunganui JFC’. Along with the merger the club also announced a new badge and a colour change from royal blue to sky blue. Te Atatu AFC is an amateur association football club in Te Atatū, New Zealand. The team's home ground is the Te Atatū Peninsula Park, and they compete in the NRF Championship. The teams best run in the Chatham Cup, New Zealand's premier knockout tournament, was in 2016 when they made the final 16 beating Albany United, Oratia United and Waiheke United before losing 1–2 to Three Kings United in the fourth round. Onehunga Sports Football Club is a youth football club based in Onehunga, New Zealand. A senior side formerly competed in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Premier, last appearing in the competition in 2019. The club is widely regarded within New Zealand for their strong focus on youth development. In recent years, Onehunga Sports have most notably produced New Zealand internationals Sarpreet Singh, Chris Wood and Moses Dyer, and former head coach Hiroshi Miyazawa. Northern Rovers
Northern Rovers Football Club is an amateur football club based in Glenfield, New Zealand. Formed in 2020 as an amalgamation between Glenfield Rovers and Forrest Hill-Milford United, Northern Rovers men's team currently competes in the NRFL Championship, while the women's team competes in the NRFL Premiership which is part of the qualifying leagues for the New Zealand Women's National League. The club also competes in both the Chatham and Kate Sheppard Cups, New Zealand's premier knockout tournaments for men and women. Both teams received byes in the 2021 Chatham Cup and 2021 Kate Sheppard Cup for the preliminary and first round, along with other ranked teams. Birkenhead United AFC
Birkenhead United AFC is an amateur football club based in Beach Haven, on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. They currently compete in the Northern League. Club history The club was established as Birkenhead in 1960 before it amalgamated with Birkdale in 1963 taking its current name as Birkenhead United. Present day Since 1965, Birkenhead have mainly played either in Division 1 or Division 2 of the Northern League though they twice early on, made it into Premier Division in 1968 and 1970, only to be relegated again that same year. They also had one of their best early runs in the 1970 Chatham Cup, making it to the 5th round before losing to Eden 1–4. They wouldn't repeat that success in the cup again until 2010.
