NCAA Season 87 Basketball Tournaments
The basketball tournaments of NCAA Season 87 are the Philippines' National Collegiate Athletic Association tournaments for basketball in its 2011–12 season. University of Perpetual Help System DALTA hosted the season, starting with an opening ceremony held on July 2, 2011 followed by a triple-header game. Games then are subsequently being held at Filoil Flying V Arena, with seniors' games on Wednesdays, Fridays and select Monday games aired by Studio 23. In the seniors' tournament, the San Beda Red Lions successfully defended their championship, sweeping the San Sebastian Stags in a rematch of the last two championship series. Both teams started undefeated, with San Sebastian winning the first round finale against the Red Lions, finally ending San Beda's league record 26-game winning streak. Turo Valenzona
Arturo "Turo" F. Valenzona (born November 5, 1942), is a former Filipino basketball player and head coach. Valenzona played college ball for the Far Eastern University before eventually playing in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association and later in the Philippine Basketball Association with U/Tex. Coaching career After his playing years, Valenzona coached the FEU Tamaraws to several championships in the UAAP and the Intercollegiate tournament. He gave Solidmills one interclub and one MICAA title, and led APCOR to six straight championships. He was also coach of the RP Youth team in 1978 and 1980. He assisted coach Nic Jorge during the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games. Valenzona was a low-key coach who made very smart decisions on the bench, particularly in clutch situations. Mapúa Cardinals
The Mapúa Cardinals are the varsity sports teams of Mapúa University that play in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines). The Mapúa Cardinals holds the NCAA record for the most General Championships in the seniors' division with a total of 20—the last of these championships was won in 1993. At distant second is the Colegio de San Juan de Letran which has eight seniors' titles. Of the total seniors' GCs won by the Cardinals, ten were from the 1980s to the mid-1990s, in addition to three (out of a total eight) in the juniors' division over the same period. Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Cup
The Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup (previously known as the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup) is a pre-season collegiate basketball tournament in the Philippines. It is organized by Filoil EcoOil Sports. It gathers teams mainly from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), but also include some invited teams such as the RP Youth under-18 team and teams from other leagues, in a basketball tournament just before the start of the collegiate season. The Ateneo Blue Eagles are the collegiate varsity teams of the Ateneo de Manila University that play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere collegiate league in the Philippines. The collegiate women's varsity basketball team is called the ''Lady Eagles''. The Ateneo collegiate men's varsity basketball team was not always called the Blue Eagles. The basketball tournaments of NCAA Season 86 refers to the basketball events of the Philippine National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s 2010–11 season. The San Beda Red Lions won all of their sixteen elimination round games to qualify for the finals outright needing to win twice against their opponent, which has to win thrice. The second-seed and defending champion San Sebastian Stags won the stepladder series against the JRU Heavy Bombers, which had earlier beaten the Mapua Cardinals.
