NCAA Division I Outdoor Track And Field Championships – Men's Javelin Throw
This is a list of the NCAA Men's Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Champions in the javelin throw. Measurements were conducted in imperial distances (feet and inches) until 1975. Metrication occurred in 1976, so all subsequent championships were measured in metric distances. International javelin design regulations were changed in 1986 with the center of gravity of the implement moved forward. As a result, throwing distances were in general shorter, flat landings fewer, and legal throws (tip-down) easier to attain post-1985. NCAA Men's Division I Outdoor Track And Field Championships
The NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship is an annual collegiate outdoor track and field competition for men organised by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Athlete's individual performances earn points for their institution and the team with the most points receives the NCAA team title in track and field. A separate NCAA Division I women's competition is also held. These two events are separate from the NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships and NCAA Division I Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships held during the winter. The first edition of the championship was held in 1921 and the competition expanded to two divisions in 1963, then three divisions in 1974. Sam Colson
Sam Colson (born March 24, 1951, born in Beloit, Kansas) is a former javelin thrower who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics where he finished fifth. Competing for the Kansas Jayhawks track and field team, Colson won the 1973 NCAA University Division Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the javelin. Brian David Crouser (born August 9, 1962) is a retired javelin thrower from the United States, who twice (1988 and 1992) competed at the Summer Olympics during his career. Biography Brian Crouser was born to Larry and Marie Crouser, in early August 1962. At the age of nine, Brian witnessed a life-altering event. This event was the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. He immediately became interested in the throwing events, practicing the shot, discus, and javelin, in his backyard in a quiet, suburban, neighborhood in Gresham, Oregon. Brian attended Gresham High School, and participated in track and field. Tom Sinclair (born 1957) was the 1979 NCAA Division I national champion for the javelin throw . He competed for the University of Washington. At Washington, Sinclair was a multi-year All-American. Tom Sinclair also holds the Washington state high school (WIAA) record for the javelin throw at 239-1.
