This is a list of the NCAA Men's Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, NCAA indoor champions in the Mile run. This is the only event on the NCAA schedule that has not transitioned from imperial measurements to metric. NCAA Men's Division I Indoor Track And Field Championships
The NCAA Men's Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship is an annual collegiate indoor track and field competition for men organised by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Athlete's individual performances earn points for their institution and the team with the most points receives the NCAA team title in track and field. A separate NCAA Division I women's competition is also held. Bob Verbeeck
Robert "Bob" Verbeeck (born 5 August 1960 in Tessenderlo) is a retired Belgian long-distance runner. He is best known for winning the gold medal in the 3000 metres at the 1985 European Indoor Championships. Gabe Jennings
Gabe Jennings (born January 25, 1979, Forks of Salmon, California) is an American Olympian and semi-retired middle-distance runner. As a student at Madison East High School in Madison, Wisconsin, Jennings won nine state titles in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) and, as of 2022, still holds the 1600 meter record in the WIAA Division 1 with his 1997 time of 4:04.97. At Stanford University, he was an All-America athlete ten times and a NCAA champion four times. He qualified for the 2000 Summer Olympics as a college junior but was eliminated during the semi-finals. Bernard Lagat
Bernard Kipchirchir Lagat (born December 12, 1974) is a Kenyan-American middle and long-distance runner. Lagat was born in Kapsabet, Kenya. Prior to his change of domicile to the US, Lagat had an extensive competitive career representing his native country. He is the American record holder in the 1500 m and mile run indoors, as well as the 1500 m and 3000 m outdoors, and is the Kenyan record holder at 1500 m outdoors. Lagat is the second fastest 1500 m runner of all time, behind Hicham El Guerrouj. Lagat is a five-time Olympian, having competed in the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 games, and is a thirteen-time medalist in World Championships and Olympics including five gold medals. Julius Achon
Julius Achon (born 12 December 1976) is a Ugandan retired middle-distance runner who specialised in the 800 metres and 1500 metres. Achon once held the 800m American Collegiate in-season Record with a time of 1:44.55 set in 1996 as a student at George Mason University. He competed in both the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. He is also the founder of the Achon Uganda Children's Fund, based in Portland, Oregon which opened a medical center in Northern Uganda in 2012. Achon currently serves as a Member of the Ugandan Parliament, representing Otuke County in Northern Uganda. Achon's life story is chronicled in the book ''The Boy Who Runs,'' by John Brant. Kevin Sullivan (born March 20, 1974) is the men's head cross country and distance coach at University of Michigan and former middle-distance runner from Canada. He was born in Brantford, Ontario. Personal life Sullivan studied civil engineering at the University of Michigan where he had 14 All-American honours and won 4 NCAA titles (one relay and 3 individual). Sulivan's father, Richard, is a machinist. He has two brothers, Darren and Colin. He played hockey and soccer while growing up in Brantford. Niall Bruton
Niall Bruton (born 27 October 1971) is a former Irish runner who specialized in the 1500 metres, retiring around 2000. From Dublin Niall went to Larkhill National School and then St. Aidan's C.B.S. in Whitehall, he ran with Clonliffe Harriers. Bruton ran collegiately in the US for the University of Arkansas where he won the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 1993 and 1994. He was named most outstanding performer among college men at the 1992 Penn Relays. His personal best 1500 time was 3:35.67 minutes, achieved in August 1995 in Cologne. Robert Owen Kennedy Jr. (born August 18, 1970 in Bloomington, Indiana) is an American distance runner. Now retired, In 1996 he was ranked 4th in the world at the 5000 meters. He once held the American record in the 3000 meters (7:30.84), 2 miles (8:11.59) and the 5000 meters (12:58.21). He was the first ever non-African to run the 5000 meters in less than thirteen minutes, and he is still one of only seven non-Africans to do so. He is regarded as one of the greatest U.S. distance runners in history. Prep school competition Kennedy was twice state champion in cross country while at Westerville North High School. Joseph Falcón (September 28, 1900 – November 19, 1965) was an accordion player from southwest Louisiana, best known for producing the first recording of a Cajun song, " Allons à Lafayette," in 1928. He and his wife Cléoma Breaux left for New Orleans to record the first Cajun record and went on to perform across southern Louisiana and Texas.
