N4 Road (Ghana)
The N4 or National Highway 4 is a national highway in Ghana that begins at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in Accra and runs through Adenta, Koforidua, and Asokore to join the N6 road (Ghana), N6, which continues to Kumasi. It serves as an alternate route from Accra to Kumasi, with a total distance of 110 kilometers (68 miles). The route runs through the Greater Accra Region, Greater Accra and Eastern Region (Ghana), Eastern regions of Ghana. Route Major towns and cities along the route of the N4 include Madina, Adenta, Aburi, Mamfe, Koforidua, Asokore, and Bunso. Greater Accra Region The N4 begins at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in Accra and travels north, running by the University of Ghana at Legon. Tetteh Quarshie Interchange
The Tetteh Quarshie Interchange is a cloverleaf interchange carrying a six-lane motorway that links the Liberation Road from 37 Military Hospital to the Pantang junction through Madina in Accra, Ghana. The interchange was commissioned for vehicular use on 27 February 2005 by then president of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor. History In 2003, the Government of Ghana initiated the expansion of the then Akuafo Circle. The circle was the largest roundabout in Ghana. The sod cutting for the project was done by John Kufuor on 17 January 2003. The project was to restructure it into an interchange to handle the huge vehicular traffic. The contract for the project was won by Messrs. SONITRA-RCCN Joint Ventures. The interchange was open to vehicular traffic on 27 February 2005 and was completed on 5 May 2005. Aburi Botanical Gardens
Aburi Botanical Gardens is a garden in Aburi in Eastern region of Ghana. The garden occupies an area of 64.8 hectares. It was opened in March, 1890 and was founded by Governor William Brandford-Griffith and Dr John Farrell Easmon, a Sierra Leonean medical doctor. Before the garden was established, it was the site of a sanatorium built in 1875 for Gold Coast government officials. During the governorship of William Brandford-Griffith, a Basel missionary and Jamaican Moravian, Alexander Worthy Clerk, supervised clearing of land around the sanatorium to start the Botanic Department. In 1890 William Crowther, a student from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, was appointed the garden's first curator. The gardens played an important role in encouraging cocoa production in South Ghana, by supplying cheap cocoa seedlings and information about scientific farming methods. The IR1 or Inter-Regional Highway 1 is a highway in Ghana that begins at Mankessim in the Central Region and runs through Agona Swedru and Nsawam to Aburi. It runs parallel to the N1 between the Central and Eastern regions, and has a total distance of 142 kilometers (88.23 miles). The route runs through the Central, Greater Accra and Eastern regions of Ghana. The IR1 links the N1 in the Central region to the N6 in Eastern region. Madina-Adenta Footbridges
The Madina-Adenta footbridges are pedestrian bridges located along the N4 highway between Madina and Adenta in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Deaths, accidents and demonstrations on the N4 highway In 2018, there were a number of public demonstrations by local residents due to the high number of accidents and deaths of pedestrians around Adenta. The immediate trigger for the demonstrations was the death of a female student of the West African Senior High School (WASHS) (formerly West African Secondary School) who was killed in front of the school after being hit by a taxi cab. It was reported by the police that there had been about 24 people had been killed and another 164 injured due to the lack of access to footbridges across the motorway. The R40 Regional Highway is a highway that begins at Adenta in the Greater Accra Region and runs through Dodowa and Somanya to Kpong in the Eastern Region. It is also known as the Accra - Dodowa Road. Route The highway spans two regions, Greater Accra and Eastern. It is described as the Adenta Trom Road. Greater Accra Region The R40 begins in Adenta where it branches off the N4 as the Accra-Dodowa Road. This is the Adenta-Trom section.
