Russell Menard
Russell Menard, Emeritus Professor at the University of Minnesota specializes in the economic and social history of the British colonies in North America. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in 1975. Most of his work has been on the economic, demographic, and social history of the Chesapeake region during the early colonial period, but his research interests include the origins of plantation slavery in British America, the economic development of the Lower South in the 18th century, and late 19th-century U.S. social history. Most recently, he has been doing work on the West Indies. Menard taught undergraduate and graduate courses on early American history, economic history, and the history of slavery. Réal Ménard (born May 13, 1962) is a Canadian politician, who was a Bloc Québécois member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 2009. He was the second Canadian member of Parliament to come out as gay. Ménard is a political scientist with B.A. and M.A. degrees and also holds his law degree from the University of Ottawa. Pierre Menard (7 October 1766 – 13 June 1844) was a fur trader and U.S. political figure. Pierre Menard was born at St. Antoine-sur-Richelieu, near Montreal, Canada, third in a family of ten children. His father was Jean Baptiste Ménard, a French soldier in the regiment of Guyenne. Resident in the Illinois Country by the end of the 18th century, Menard became a successful businessman. He served in the legislature of the Indiana Territory, and then presided over the Illinois Territory Council. He was elected the first Lieutenant Governor of the State of Illinois in 1818. She was the Quebec Liberal Party member of the National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Laporte in the Montérégie region from 2007 to 2022, serving as Minister of Tourism when her party was in power. Nicolas-Hugues Ménard (Hugo Menardus) (1585 in Paris – 21 January 1644) was a French Benedictine scholar. His father was private secretary to Catherine de' Medici, his mother was a native of Blois. After a liberal education Ménard entered the Order of St. Benedict, 3 February 1607, at St. Denis, and made his religious profession 10 September 1612. In the next year, he joined the reform movement of St. Vannes in Verdun which some years later developed into the Congregation of St. Maur; and he became one of its main helps. Nellie Zelda Star Boy Menard (June 3, 1910 – September 23, 2001) was an American quiltmaker and educator. In 1995, she received a National Heritage Fellowship. Early life Nellie Zelda Star Boy was born on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, the daughter of Burton (Bert) Star Boy and Grace Jane Long Warrior. She was a member of the Sicangu Lakota (or Brulé) people. She graduated from the Flandreau Indian School. Career Menard worked as an educator at the Flandreau as a young woman. During World War II, she operated the Rosebud Arts and Crafts Store in South Dakota and the Northern Plains Arts and Crafts Store in Browning, Montana. Michel Branamour Menard (1805–1856) was a Canadians, Canadian-born trader and merchant, first active on the upper Mississippi River and later in Texas. He co-founded Galveston, Texas. He represented Galveston County, Texas, Galveston County in the Congress of the Republic of Texas. His Galveston home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
