Mélanie Henique (born 22 December 1992) is a French competitive swimmer. She won a bronze medal in the 50 metre butterfly at the 2011 World Championships and a silver medal in the 50 metre butterfly at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships. Career At the 2011 World Aquatics Championships, held in Shanghai, China, Henique achieved a time of 25.86 seconds in the final of the 50 metre butterfly and won the bronze medal, finishing 0.15 seconds behind gold medalist Inge Dekker of the Netherlands. Henique qualified to represent France at the 2020 Summer Olympics. At the Olympic Games, held in Tokyo, Japan in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she tied Simone Manuel of the United States for eleventh place in the 50 metre freestyle with a time of 24.63 seconds."2 ... Butterfly Stroke
The butterfly (colloquially shortened to fly) is a List of swimming styles, swimming stroke swum on the chest, with both arms moving symmetrically, accompanied by the butterfly kick (also known as the "dolphin kick"). While other styles like the breaststroke, front crawl, or backstroke can be swum adequately by beginners, the butterfly is a more difficult stroke that requires good technique as well as strong muscles. It is the newest swimming (sport), swimming style swum in competition, first swum in 1933 and originating out of the breaststroke. Speed and ergonomics The peak speed of the butterfly is faster than that of the front crawl due to the synchronous pull/push with both arms and legs, which is done quickly. 2010 European Aquatics Championships
The 2010 European Aquatics Championships were held from 4–15 August 2010 in Budapest and Balatonfüred, Hungary. It was the fourth time that the city of Budapest hosts this event after 1926, 1958 and 2006. Events in swimming, diving, synchronised swimming (synchro) and open water swimming were scheduled. 2011 World Aquatics Championships
The 14th FINA World Championships () were held on 16–31 July 2011 in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. The 2011 World Championships featured five aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming. At this championships, synchronized swimmer Natalia Ishchenko, of Russia, was the most decorated competitor winning all six gold medals of her events, at solo, duet and team routines. 2008 FINA Youth World Swimming Championships
The 2nd FINA World Youth Swimming Championships, or 2008 Youth Worlds, were held on July 8–13, 2008, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. The Championships were held at the Aquatics Center of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (Centro Acuático Olímpico Universitario). In May 2008, this same pool hosted the swimming portion of the 2008 Mexican National Olympiad, which served as the country's selection meet for Mexico's teams to the 2008 Olympics. The male participants had to be 18 years or younger on the 31 December 2008 (i.e. born 1990 or later). 2009 Mediterranean Games
The 2009 Mediterranean Games, officially the XVI Mediterranean Games ( it, XVI Giochi del Mediterraneo) and commonly known as Pescara 2009, was a multi-sport event held in Pescara, Italy, from 26 June to 5 July 2009. It was governed by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG) (french: Comité international des Jeux méditerranéens). A total of 3,368 athletes (2,183 men and 1,185 women) from 23 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated in the Games. Montenegro participated for the first time at the Mediterranean Games, after their independence in 2006. The program included competitions in 24 different sports, including three non-Olympic sports – bocce, karate, and water skiing – and golf, which was reinstated as an official Olympic sport in 2016 Summer Olympics. The Mediterranean Games is a multi-sport event organised by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM). It is held every four years among athletes from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea in Africa, Asia and Europe. The first Mediterranean Games were held in 1951 in Alexandria, Egypt, while the most recent games were held in 2022 in Oran, Algeria. 2017 European Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2017 European Short Course Swimming Championships took place in Copenhagen, Denmark from 13 to 17 December 2017. The meet was held in the Royal Arena, which was finished in early 2017. It was the first major sports event in this arena, which has a capacity of circa 12,500. It was the second time that Denmark hosted this event, after the 2013 edition in Herning.
