Märta Torén
Märta Torén (21 May 1925 – 19 February 1957) was a Swedish stage and film actress of the 1940s and 1950s. Torén's father was a Swedish military officer, and for three years, during World War II, she was a secretary in the Swedish war office. After studying at the Stockholm Royal Dramatic Theater's Royal Dramatic Training Academy, Torén began her career on the stage and from 1947 she appeared in films. She appeared on the cover of the June 13 issue of ''Life Magazine'' in 1949. Torén appeared in 11 American film productions during her brief career. One of her roles was opposite Humphrey Bogart in ''Sirocco'' (1951), and she also co-starred with Dana Andrews in ''Assignment – Paris! ''The Shadow'' ( it, L'ombra) is a 1954 Italian melodrama film directed by Giorgio Bianchi and starring Märta Torén and Pierre Cressoy. Plot Lamont Cranston, a psychiatrist on retainer to the police department, is asked to assist in the Case of the Cotton Kimono murder investigation. Lamont and his girlfriend Margot Lane are not satisfied with Detective Harris' analysis and call on the two prime suspects: the victim's voice instructor and her boyfriend. ''Sirocco'' is a 1951 American film noir directed by Curtis Bernhardt and starring Humphrey Bogart. The film name is derived from ''Sirocco'', a strong wind blowing in the Mediterranean, coming from the Sahara desert. It is hot and dry and is said to make people irritable. ''One Way Street'' is a 1950 American film noir crime film directed by Hugo Fregonese and starring James Mason, Märta Torén and Dan Duryea. The crime film takes place mainly in Mexico. Plot Dr. Frank Matson, a physician, steals $200,000 from the henchmen of mob boss John Wheeler, after a robbery that Wheeler has pulled off along with Ollie, a member of his gang. Forced to go on the run, Matson also takes Wheeler's girlfriend Laura Thorsen with him. After hiding out in Mexico, word gets back to Matson that Wheeler knows where he is. It was the first American film to deal with the 1947–1948 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine and marked the first significant feature film role for Jeff Chandler. Plot Freighter owner and captain Mike Dillon reluctantly smuggles Jewish immigrants into Palestine, making it very clear to the Jewish leader, David Vogel, he is only doing it for the money. Escanaba ( ), commonly shortened to Esky, is a port city in Delta County in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on Little Bay de Noc in the state's Upper Peninsula. The population was 12,616 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in the Upper Peninsula after Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie. It is the seat of government of Delta County.
