Männedorf
Männedorf (High Alemannic: ''Mänidoorf'') is a municipality in the district of Meilen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. History Like in all other villages along the lake of Zürich, archeological findings indicate settlements in the stone ages. The original settlement dates from the 7th or 8th century; the name ''Mannidorf'' ("Village of Manno", a personal name, possibly of a nobleman) is mentioned in 933. The upright otter on a golden background in the coats of arm is derived otter is derived from that of the medieval provost Eberhard Ottikon. The village originally housed fishermen, farmers and winegrowers. Männedorf was once owned by the monastery of Pfäfers. It later developed to become the home of the bailiwick of Zürich from 1405 until 1798. After the opening of the Lake Zurich right bank railway from Zürich to Rapperswil in 1894 the village blossomed. Opfikon Railway Station
Opfikon is a railway station in Switzerland, in the municipality of Opfikon. The station is served by Zürich S-Bahn line S7. Opfikon station is some walk from Glattbrugg station on S-Bahn line S5 and the Stadtbahn Glattal. The Opfikon station has a single central platform, which is flanked by two tracks. The two through tracks of the Zürich Airport station branch of the Zürich to Winterthur line run parallel to the platform, but are not connected to the platform tracks in the vicinity of the station. The station is situated on the Wettingen–Effretikon line, originally opened by the Swiss National Railway (''Schweizerische Nationalbahn''; SNB) in 1877 and bypassing Zürich. However the passenger trains that stop at the station all operate from Zürich, using a connection from Zürich Oerlikon station opened in 1881. Rapperswil railway station (german: Bahnhof Rapperswil) is a railway station located next to the old town and harbour of Rapperswil in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. It is the largest of four active railway stations in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona (the other three being , and ). Meilen Railway Station
Meilen is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zürich, situated in the municipality of Meilen. The station is located on the Lake Zürich right bank railway line. History The station was opened in 1893, at the same time as the Lake Zürich right bank line. In 1903, Meilen station became the interchange point with the Wetzikon-Meilen-Bahn (WMB), a newly built metre gauge electric tramway that served the Zürcher Oberland area inland from the lake. The WMB originally ran beyond Meilen station, to terminate at the lakeside, but this section closed in 1931 leaving the station as the line's terminus. The WMB closed in 1950.
