Mythology (Bee Gees Album)
''Mythology'' is a box set compilation of recordings by the Gibb Brothers, mostly performed as the Bee Gees, arranged in a four disc set each highlighting a Gibb brother. Barry and Robin chose their own songs (presumably their personal favourites), with Maurice's songs selected by his widow Yvonne and Andy's songs selected by his daughter Peta. Several U.S. and U.K. hits are absent from this collection including " Lonely Days", "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart", "You Should Be Dancing", "Nights on Broadway", "World" and " One". Background All of the songs on Barry's & Robin's disc have already been released on CD, though several are receiving new remasters by Rhino/Reprise, which is true for all the songs in this set. Maurice's disc includes two unreleased tracks from 1999, "Angel of Mercy" and "The Bridge", as well as his 1984 single "Hold Her in Your Hand", which makes its CD debut. Bee Gees
The Bee Gees were a musical group formed in 1958 by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were especially successful in popular music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and later as prominent performers in the disco music era in the mid-to-late 1970s. The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies; Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the mid-to-late 1970s and 1980s. The group wrote all of their own original material, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists and have been regarded as one of the most important and influential acts in pop music history. A box set or (its original name) boxed set is a set of items (for example, a compilation of books, musical recordings, films or television programs) traditionally packaged in a box and offered for sale as a single unit. Music Artists and bands with an extremely long and successful career often have anthology or "essential" collections of their boxes of music released as box sets. These often include rare and never-before-released tracks. Hold Her In Your Hand
"Hold Her in Your Hand" is a country ballad recorded by Maurice Gibb; it was his second and last single after "Railroad" in 1970. Samantha Gibb, the daughter of Maurice, recorded an acoustic version that was independently released on CD in 2013. Recording It was originally recorded by the Bee Gees and was written by Barry Gibb and Maurice Gibb in the sessions of '' Living Eyes'' in 1981, but was not released at that time. Maurice re-recorded the song for the film ''A Breed Apart''. Gibb played numerous instruments on this track, including piano, guitar and bass. However, the musician who played harmonica and drums was not credited. The country ballad-style would have made it ideal for Kenny Rogers (as the Gibbs wrote songs for him in 1983) The instrumental mix Maurice made for the B side has a little of his backing vocal in it. Rhino Entertainment Company is an American specialty record label and production company founded in 1978. It is currently the catalog division for Warner Music Group. Its current CEO is Mark Pinkus. "One" is the second international single (and lead single in the U.S.) from the Bee Gees' album, '' One''. This was the song that returned the Bee Gees to American radio and would turn out to be their biggest US hit in the 1980s, and their last hit single to reach the US top ten. "World" is a song by the Bee Gees, released in 1967 as a single in the United Kingdom and Europe and then included on their album '' Horizontal'' the following year. Though it was a big hit in Europe, Atco Records did not issue it as a single in the United States, having just issued a third single from ''Bee Gees' 1st'', " Holiday". Recording and composition The song's first recording session was on 3 October 1967 along with "With the Sun in My Eyes" and "Words". The song's last recording session was on 28 October 1967. "World" was originally planned as having no orchestra, so was recorded on four tracks, including some piano played by Maurice and organ played by Robin. When it was decided to add an orchestra, the four tracks containing the band were mixed to one track and the orchestra was added to the other track. "Nights on Broadway" is a song by the Bee Gees from the ''Main Course'' album released in 1975. The second single released from the album, it immediately followed their number-one hit "Jive Talkin'". This track was credited to Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. Recording Recording this track started on 20 January 1975 and continued on 30 January, when they started to record songs for the album: "Jive Talkin'" (finished 2 February), "Songbird", "Fanny (Be Tender with My Love)" (finished 19 February), "All This Making Love" and "Edge of the Universe". Producer Arif Mardin asked if one of the Bee Gees members could do some screaming during the main chorus to make the song more exciting. "You Should Be Dancing" is a song by the Bee Gees, from the album ''Children of the World'', released in 1976. It hit No. 1 for one week on the American ''Billboard'' Hot 100, No. 1 for seven weeks on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart, and in September the same year, reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart. "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" is a song released by the Bee Gees in 1971. It was written by Barry and Robin Gibb and was the first single on the group's 1971 album ''Trafalgar''. It was their first US No. 1 single and also reached No. 1 in '' Cashbox'' magazine for two weeks. In the US Atco Records issued both mono and stereo versions of the song on each side as a promo single. The B-side was a Maurice Gibb composition "Country Woman".
