Myrtleford Football Club
The Myrtleford Alpine Saints Football Netball Club, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Myrtleford, in north east Victoria on the Ovens River. The football and netball squads play in the Ovens & Murray Football League (OMFL). Myrtleford was initiated into the Ovens District Football Association in 1895, which later became the Bright Shire Football Association in 1900. The club joined the OMFL in 1950. Myrtleford's only premiership triumph was against Wangaratta Rovers in 1970. The Saints were runners-up in 2001, 2005 and 2006. The club has produced VFL/AFL players including Len Ablett, Sam Kekovich, Steve McKee, Guy Rigoni, Frazer Dale, Jack Crisp and Matt Taberner. Ovens & Murray Football League
The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 18s. In the netball competition, there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade and Under 16s. Currently a home and away season consisting of eighteen rounds is played. The best five teams then play off according to the McIntyre System, culminating in the O&MFNL Grand Final, which from 1995 to 2017 was held at the Lavington Sports Ground in the Albury suburb of Hamilton Valley. Martin Cross (footballer)
Martin Cross (born 19 October 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Martin Cross joined Carlton in 1961 from North Ballarat, Where he played 96 games in the Ballarat League prior to crossing to Carlton. He was a right-foot kick who baulked and turned well, and had all the requirements of a top-class rover. Cross was 20th man in the 1962 Carlton Grand Final team, that was beaten by Essendon by 32 points. He later coached in the Ovens & Murray League, steering Myrtleford to a premiership in 1970 as captain-coach. Ronald Branton (born 10 June 1933) is a former Australian rules football player who has played in the VFL between 1953 and 1962 for the Richmond Football Club. Branton played with Myrtleford in the Ovens & Murray Football League from 1963 to 1965 as their captain/coach, kicking 80 goals during that time. Jimmy Deane (31 January 1921 – 21 August 2002) was a British Trotskyist who played a significant role in building the Revolutionary Socialist League. The Ovens & King Football Netball League is a minor country Australian rules football league based in North-Eastern Victoria in the vicinity of Wangaratta and more recently Benalla. History The ''Ovens & King Football League'' was formed on the 13th of June 1903, after a handful of men met at The Bulls Head Hotel in Wangaratta to consider forming a football competition. One week later, the first matches of the Ovens & King Football Association were played. The competition changed its name to the Ovens and King Football League after the 1928 season. Today, more than 100 years later, teams from Benalla, Bright, Greta, King Valley, Milawa, Moyhu, North Wangaratta, Tarrawingee and Whorouly participate in seniors, reserves and five netball grades. John Alfred Isaacs
John Alfred Isaacs (c. 1861 – 22 August 1944), generally referred to as J. A. Isaacs, was a lawyer and parliamentarian in the Australian colony and state of Victoria. He was a son of Alfred Isaacs (died 1 August 1904) and Rebecca Isaacs, and a brother of Sir Isaac Isaacs (1855–1948). He married late in life to a much younger woman.
