Mylor, South Australia
Mylor (postcode 5153) is a small village in the Adelaide Hills. History Mylor was surveyed in 1885, with a plan to develop the land as a focal point for orchard development in South Australia. The town was proclaimed in 1891 by Acting Governor of South Australia Sir James Boucaut who named it after his Cornish birthplace of Mylor. Early inhabitants were strict Methodists, and due to their temperance belief no country pub was established, a quirk which has persisted into the current day. A church, school and a co-operative general store were among the early constructions of the town. Current Mylor retains a small village feel with a population of 939 (2006 census data). There is a Mylor country market held on the first Sunday of every month, from 9 am until 1 pm on the Mylor Oval. Mylor is a popular camping area, with many camps. The Division of Mayo is an Australian electoral division located to the east and south of Adelaide, South Australia. Created in the state redistribution of 3 September 1984, the division is named after Helen Mayo, a social activist and the first woman elected to an Australian University Council. The 9,315 km² rural seat covers an area from the Barossa Valley in the north to Cape Jervis in the south. Mylor Conservation Park
__NOTOC__ Mylor Conservation Park is a protected area located in the Australian state of South Australia in the suburb of Mylor in the Adelaide Hills state government region about south-east of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east of the town of Mylor. The conservation park consists of land in Allotment 51 of Deposited Plan 46510 and Section 3322 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Noarlunga. It is located within land east of Strathalbyn Road and west of the watercourse of the Onkaparinga River, and is accessed via Whitehead Road. Part of the land was previously used as a recreational facility called the Mylor Recreation Centre. The Heysen Trail, the long distance walking trail, passes through the conservation park entering from the west via Whitehead Road and exiting in the north onto Hooper Road. George Woodroffe Goyder
George Woodroffe Goyder (24 June 1826 – 2 November 1898) was a surveyor in the Colony of South Australia during the latter half of the nineteenth century. He rose rapidly in the civil service, becoming Assistant Surveyor-General by 1856 and the Surveyor General of South Australia in 1861. He is remembered today for Goyder's Line of rainfall, a line used in South Australia to demarcate land climatically suitable for arable farming from that suitable only for light grazing, and for the siting, planning and initial development of Darwin, the Northern Territory capital and principal population centre. Heathfield, South Australia
Heathfield is a township in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia near Stirling. It is home to Heathfield High School, Heathfield Primary School, Heathfield Oval, the Heathfield Waste Depot, Mount Lofty Sand and Metal, Masonic homes (retirement Village), a biodynamic farm and a proposed service station development, along with numerous walking trails. Heathfield is also located close to Mount Lofty Ranges. The small country suburb of Heathfield also contains a small conservation park known as Woorabinda. This is used daily by residents to walk their dogs; and ducks to receive free food. The proposed service station is currently a source of controversy, with some local residents creating a petition against the development and others supporting it.
