Mykhailo Horyn
Mykhailo Mykolayovych Horyn ( uk, Михайло Миколайович Горинь; 17 June 1930 – 13 January 2013) was a Ukrainian human rights activist, Soviet dissident, and politician. He was a People's Deputy of Ukraine in the first convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, from 15 May 1990 to 10 May 1994. He played an important role in the country's struggle for independence. Regarding Russian-Ukrainian relations, he said, "Our historical mission is to be the doctor who will cure Russia of its imperial ambition. Ukraine is a European power. Russia is not. Bohdan Horyn ( uk, Богдан Миколайович Горинь; born in Kniselo, Lwów Voivodeship) is a Ukrainian human rights activist and dissident. He was a People's Deputy of the first and second convocations of the Verkhovna Rada from May 15, 1990, to May 12, 1998. His older brother is Mykhailo Horyn (1930-2013), also was a Ukrainian human rights activist and Soviet dissident. Biography Bohdan Horyn was born on February 10, 1936, in the village of Kniselo, now Stryi Raion, Lviv Oblast. He graduated from Ivan Franko Lviv State University, Faculty of Philology in 1959. He became a philologist and a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature. In 1988 he was one of the founders of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union. In 1990—1997 he was a member of the Ukrainian Republican Party Board and Council. From 1994 to 1996 he was the director of the Institute for Diaspora Studies. Ivan Drach
Ivan Fedorovych Drach ( uk, Іва́н Фе́дорович Драч; 17 October 1936 – 19 June 2018) was a Ukrainian poet, screenwriter, literary critic, politician, and political activist. Drach played an important role in the founding of Rukh – the People's Movement of Ukraine – and led the organisation from 1989 to 1992. Biography Ivan Drach was born 17 October 1936, in Telizhyntsi, Kyiv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. After finishing high school, Ivan Drach complied with military service, after which he studied in the Faculty of Language and Literature of Kyiv University from 1959-1963. At this time Drach visited the popular "Klub tvorchoyi molodi" Club for Creative Young People" (CCY)and took part in literary evenings with reading of innovative poems. This creative way started in the period of Khrushchev thaw. Drach made his debut in 1961 with the publication of his poem-tragedy ''Knife in the Sun'' in the Kyiv literary newspaper.
