Myddelton College
Myddelton College is located at Denbigh in Wales on the site of Howell's School, Denbigh, a former girls school founded in 1859. It was reopened in 2016 as an independent co-educational day and boarding school. Denbigh
Denbigh (; cy, Dinbych; ) is a market town and a community in Denbighshire, Wales. Formerly, the county town, the Welsh name translates to "Little Fortress"; a reference to its historic castle. Denbigh lies near the Clwydian Hills. History Denbigh Castle, together with its town walls, was built in 1282 by order of King Edward I. The Burgess Gate, whose twin towers adorn the symbol on Denbigh's civic seal, was once the main entrance into the town. The first borough charter was granted to Denbigh in 1290, when the town was still contained within the old town walls. It was the centre of the Marcher Lordship of Denbigh. The town was involved in the revolt of Madog ap Llywelyn in 1294–1295; the castle was captured in the autumn, and on 11 November 1294 a relieving force was defeated by the Welsh rebels. Howell's School, Denbigh
Howell's School Denbigh ( Welsh: ''Ysgol Howell Dinbych'') was an independent girls only school located in Denbigh, Denbighshire. The school taught girls from the age of 3 up to 18 and contained a pre-preparatory , preparatory, senior and sixth form. It was established in 1859 with funding from Thomas Howell's trustees who later established Howell's School Llandaff in 1860. The school had many facilities including a sports hall, 120 acres of grounds and an equestrian centre. In the 2011 ''Daily Telegraph'' Independent League Table of GCSE results, Howell's School came 298th in the UK with 22.03% A* Grade and 45.79% A* or A grade. Following some years of decline in numbers and a series of tribunals involving staff wrongfully dismissed amid allegations of poor management, the school announced on 2 August 2013 that it would not be reopening for the following academic year, citing financial difficulties as the primary reason, although this is disputed. Myddelton Family
The Myddelton family were substantial landowners and benefactors in and around Denbigh in the north-east of Wales. As landowners and members of parliament, a number of its members were elevated to the baronetcy. For several generations, the family were governors of Denbigh Castle and owned Chirk Castle well into the 20th century. History Richard Myddelton (by 1509–1577/78), the first MP for Denbigh Boroughs, was a son of Fulk Myddelton of Llansannan, himself a younger son of David Myddelton, receiver of Denbigh during the reign of King Edward IV, was for many years governor of Denbigh Castle. His younger brother was Robert Myddelton, also an MP for Denbigh Boroughs. The Myddelton Family coat of arms features their motto, "In veritate triumpho" (I triumph in trouth), and can be found over the entrance to Chirk Castle in North Wales, which had been bought by Sir Thomas Myddelton in 1595 for £5,000.
