Alfred Cove is a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Melville. History It is named after the adjacent sheltered cove in the Swan River, which is in turn named after Alfred Waylen who was born at Point Walter in 1833 and who was granted Swan Location 74, covering most of present-day Alfred Cove and Myaree. Ardross is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Melville. It was once an area of land acquired by the Scotsman, Sir Alexander Percival Matheson in 1896. In Matheson's subdivision of the adjoining suburb of Applecross, he created "Ardross Street" naming it after either the town of Ardrossan on the Scottish west coast or Ardross Castle, located about 40 kilometers north of Inverness. Willagee is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia south-southwest of the Perth central business district. It is within the local government area of City of Melville, and the electoral district of Willagee, which takes its name from the suburb. History Willagee is named after Willagee Swamp, the Noongar name of a now-reclaimed feature in the area. The suburb originally comprised a housing estate known as "Willagee Park", created by the State Housing Commission. Winthrop is a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Melville. History Winthrop was originally a pine tree plantation owned by the University of Western Australia. The first blocks were sold in the early 1980s. After the first residents moved in, more blocks were sold off in a number of phases. Shortly after the first residents, a convenience store opened for business, which now includes a post office, IGA store and a florist. Soon the Winthrop Primary school and Winthrop village shopping centre were opened. Blocks were so sought after that many people resorted to sleeping near the sales office for up to a week just to secure a position. The City of Melville is a local government area in the southern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, east of the port city of Fremantle and about south of Perth's central business district.
