Myadzyel ( be, Мядзел, ''Miadzieł'' ; russian: Мядель, ''Mjadelj''; pl, Miadzioł; lt, Medilas) is a city in the Minsk Region of Belarus. It is the centre of Myadzyel District. Myadzyel is located on the eastern shore of lake Miastra, one of the Lake Narach, Narach lake group in Narachanski National Park. History Within the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Myadzyel was part of Vilnius Voivodeship. On February 8, 1659, the Battle of Myadel occurred near Myadzyel. In 1793, Myadzyel was acquired by the Russian Empire in the course of the Second Partition of Poland. In 1754 the Baroque Church of Saint Mary (Miadziel), Church of Saint Mary was by Antoniy Koshitz. From 1921 until 1939, Myadzel (''Miadzioł'') was part of the Second Polish Republic. In September 1939, the town was Soviet invasion of Poland, occupied by the Red Army and, on 14 November 1939, incorporated into the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, Byelorussian SSR. Minsk Region or Minsk Oblast or Minsk Voblasts ( be, Мі́нская во́бласць, ''Minskaja voblasć'' ; russian: Минская о́бласть, ''Minskaya oblast'') is one of the regions of Belarus. Its administrative center is Minsk, although it is a separate administrative territorial entity of Belarus. As of 2011, the region's population is 1,411,500. Geography Minsk Region covers a total of 39,900 km², about 19.44% of the national total area. Lake Narach, the largest lake in the country, is located in the northern part of the region.
