My Wife's Best Friend
''My Wife's Best Friend'' is a 1952 American comedy film directed by Richard Sale, starring Anne Baxter and Macdonald Carey, with Catherine McLeod in the titular role. Plot Virginia Mason (Anne Baxter) and George (Macdonald Carey), husband and wife from Mellford, Illinois, are passengers on an airliner for a second honeymoon in Hawaii. When the plane develops serious engine trouble, it looks like the end for everyone on board. Certain that he's facing an imminent demise, George confesses to Virginia that he's had an affair with her best friend Jane Richards (Catherine McLeod). Virginia mulls over several potential revenges in her mind, casting herself as various famous women of history. Richard Sale, (December 17, 1911 in New York – March 4, 1993 in Los Angeles) was an American screenwriter, pulp writer, and film director. Career Born in New York City, Sale was educated at Washington and Lee University. Sale started his career writing as a freelance writer for pulps in the Thirties, appearing regularly in '' Detective Fiction Weekly'' (with the Daffy Dill series ), '' Argosy'', '' Double Detective'', and a number of other magazines. In the Forties, he graduated to slick publications like ''The Country Gentleman'' and ''The Saturday Evening Post''. In the 1930s, Sale was one of the highest-paid pulp writers. Billie Bird Sellen (February 28, 1908 – November 27, 2002), better known professionally as Billie Bird, was an American actress and comedian. She played Margie in '' Dear John'' (1988–1992). Early life Born in Pocatello, Idaho, Bird was discovered at the age of eight while living at an orphanage. As a child, she worked in vaudeville, including the act known as the King Sisters, and later in theater/cabaret before moving on to television and films. Career She is credited with an appearance in a 1921 film ''Grass Widowers'', but it is not clear if this is accurate. May Wynn
Donna Lee Custer ( Hickey, January 8, 1928 – March 22, 2021), better known as May Wynn, was an American dancer, singer, and actress. Early life Wynn, who grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, New York, was descended from a line of performers. Her grandfather, Bertie Black, worked as a musician in vaudeville, and her father, Ray Hickey, was a song-and-dance performer in vaudeville. She was of Irish descent. Her early jobs included modeling, working in a department store, and being a page at La Guardia Field. Outside of work, she won a variety of talent contests. Edgar Dearing (May 4, 1893 – August 17, 1974) was an American actor who became heavily type cast as a motorcycle cop in Hollywood films. Biography Born in 1893, Dearing started in silent comedy shorts for Hal Roach, including several with Laurel and Hardy, notably in their classic '' Two Tars'', probably his best ever screen role. He later had supporting roles in several of their features for 20th Century Fox in the 1940s.
