''My Vinyl Weighs a Ton'' is the debut studio album by American hip hop producer and DJ Peanut Butter Wolf. It was released in 1999 on his own record label, Stones Throw Records, in conjunction with Copasetik Records. It peaked at number 44 on the UK Independent Albums Chart. On the week of March 1, 1999, it reached number 1 on the KTUH Top 30 chart. Critical reception John Bush of AllMusic gave the album 4.5 stars out of 5, calling it "one of the grooviest, funkiest underground records of the '90s." He said, "''My Vinyl Weighs a Ton'' boasts deep beats and choice samples, all of them working brilliantly together, and enough great cutting to keep each track raw and full of energy." Peanut Butter Wolf
Christopher George Manak (born October 8, 1969 ), better known by his stage name Peanut Butter Wolf, is an American disc jockey and record producer from San Jose, California. He is based in Los Angeles, where he moved to in 2000. He is the founder of Stones Throw Records. Career In 1989, Peanut Butter Wolf met rapper Charizma. They became friends and started making music together. They made a name for themselves in San Jose and the Bay Area through their live shows and demo tapes. Charizma was shot dead in 1993. In 1996, Peanut Butter Wolf founded Stones Throw Records, which would release the duo's '' Big Shots'' in 2003. In 1999, Peanut Butter Wolf released '' My Vinyl Weighs a Ton''. Charizma
Charles Edward Hicks Jr. (July 6, 1973 – December 16, 1993), also known by his stage name Charizma, was an MC from Milpitas, California. He is best known for his work with Peanut Butter Wolf; the two artists formed a duo after meeting in 1990. Their musical partnership was cut short following Charizma's murder in 1993. Biography Charizma was 13 when he started rapping at high school talent shows. He was 16 when he met 19-year-old Chris Manak, also known as Peanut Butter Wolf, in 1990. They became best friends, recording several demos and performing live in the San Jose area. DJ Rhettmatic (born Nazareth Nirza) is a producer, DJ and member and part creator of Southern California's first turntable band, the Beat Junkies. Rhettmatic began his DJ career in 1983, with Double Platinum, a DJ group based out of Cerritos, CA. Zach Sciacca (born July 22, 1971), better known as DJ Z-Trip, is an American DJ and producer. He is a pioneer of the mashup movement. He was the 2009 recipient of the "America's Best DJ Award". Lucas MacFadden (born October 4, 1972), better known as Cut Chemist, is an American DJ and record producer. He is a former member of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli. He has collaborated with DJ Shadow on a number of projects. Early life Cut Chemist graduated from University of California, Los Angeles in 1997. Cut Chemist also attended Glendale Community College and took several drawing and life drawing classes in the early 1990's. Lootpack is an American hip hop group signed to Stones Throw Records with members Madlib, Wildchild, and DJ Romes. They made their first appearance on the 1993 debut album by Tha Alkaholiks, '' 21 & Over''. The first vinyl by Lootpack, ''Ill Psych Move EP'', was released in 1996 on a label named Crate Digga's Palace founded by Madlib's father, Otis Jackson Sr. After this 12" they caught the attention of Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf, producer and DJ. Eventually the three of them signed for Stones Throw leading to their 1999 release of '' Soundpieces: Da Antidote''.
