''My Sweet Pepper Land'' is a 2013 Kurdish-language internationally co-produced drama film directed by Huner Saleem. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. It was nominated in the 7th annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards for Asia Pacific Screen Award for Achievement in Directing, Achievement in Directing for Huner Saleem and Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actress, Best Performance by an Actress for Golshifteh Farahani. Plot In a remote village in Iraqi Kurdistan lives the Kurdish patriot Baran who since recently serves as a policeman. Huner Saleem
Huner Saleem (Kurdish: هونهر سەلیم), also transliterated as Huner Salim, (born 9 March 1964), is an Iraqi–Kurdish film director. He was born in the town of Aqrah (Akre) in Iraqi Kurdistan. He left Iraq at the age of 17, and soon made his way to Italy, where he completed school and attended university. Later on, he moved to France where he lives now. In 1992, after the First Gulf War, he filmed undercover the living conditions of Iraqi Kurds. This footage was shown at the Venice Film Festival. In 1998, he made his first movie, ''Vive la mariée... et la libération du Kurdistan''. Tariq ( ar, طارق) is an Arabic word and given name. Etymology The word is derived from the Arabic verb , ('), meaning "to strike", and into the agentive conjugated doer form , ('), meaning "striker". It became popular as a name after Tariq ibn Ziyad, a Muslim military leader who conquered Iberia in the Battle of Guadalete in 711 AD. In literature and placenames Ṭariq is used in classical Arabic to refer to a visitor at night (a visitor "strikes" the house door). Due to the heat of travel in the Arabian Peninsula, visitors would generally arrive at night. Feyyaz Duman (born 15 June 1982) is a Turkish actor of Kurdish descent. Duman was born in 1982 in Mardin.
