My Own Way (song)
"My Own Way" is the fourth single by Duran Duran, originally released as a single on 16 November 1981. The single was designed as a stop-gap release to capitalise on the Top 5 success of the band's previous single, "Girls on Film", but prior to the recording and release of the band's second album ''Rio'' (which was recorded in the early months of 1982). "My Own Way" was another hit, peaking at #14 on the UK Singles Chart. It peaked at #10 in Australia. Despite its success, the single has often been cited by the band as one of their least favourite and is rarely played live. Keyboardist Nick Rhodes has expressed astonishment that "My Own Way" performed better than 1987's " Skin Trade", which ended the band's record of twelve consecutive Top 20 hits in the UK. Duran Duran () are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Birmingham in 1978 by singer and bassist Stephen Duffy, keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist/bassist John Taylor (bass guitarist), John Taylor. With the addition of drummer Roger Taylor (Duran Duran drummer), Roger Taylor the following year the band went through numerous personnel changes before May 1980, when they settled on their most famous line-up by adding guitarist Andy Taylor (guitarist), Andy Taylor and lead vocalist Simon Le Bon. When Duran Duran emerged they were generally considered part of the New Romantic scene. Innovators of the music video, Duran Duran were catapulted into the mainstream with the introduction of the 24-hour music channel MTV. Skin Trade (song)
"Skin Trade" is the second single from Duran Duran's ''Notorious'' album, and the band's 15th single in total. It was released in January 1987, reached #22 on the UK Singles Chart, and #39 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. About the song The music for "Skin Trade" was written long before Simon Le Bon finally finished the lyrics. The title for the song was derived from the Dylan Thomas book ''Adventures in the Skin Trade'' which John Taylor had on him during recording of the album. It was shortened to "Skin Trade" and Le Bon eventually wrote the melody and lyrics for the track while spending an evening in Taylor's Upper West Side Manhattan apartment. The lyrics reflect on how everyone is selling themselves, and "there's a little hooker in each of us". The single was a departure for the band. Flamenco
Flamenco (), in its strictest sense, is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia. Russell Mulcahy ( ; born 23 June 1953) is an Australian film director. Mulcahy's work is recognisable by the use of fast cuts, tracking shots and use of glowing lights, neo-noir lighting, windblown drapery, and fans. He directed music videos in the 1980s, worked in television since the early 1990s and directed the films ''Razorback'' (1984), '' Highlander'' (1986) and '' Resident Evil: Extinction'' (2007). A bullfighter (or matador) is a performer in the activity of bullfighting. Adrian Paul Hewett (born 29 May 1959) is an English actor best known for the titular role of Duncan MacLeod on the television series '' Highlander: The Series''. "Electric Barbarella" is the 29th single by Duran Duran, and the first official single from the album ''Medazzaland''. In 1997, the single and album were released only in the United States; "Electric Barbarella" was not issued as a single in the UK until January 1999 on the back of the late 1998 release of the compilation album '' Greatest''. The band's previous single, " Out of My Mind", was another track from ''Medazzaland'', but was released as a single from ''The Saint'' soundtrack album instead. It was released on 5 November 1990 as the second single from their sixth studio album, ''Liberty'' (1990), reaching number three in Italy and number 48 in the United Kingdom. "Careless Memories" is the second single by Duran Duran, released on 20 April 1981. The band's debut single "Planet Earth" had been a Top 20 hit, so it was regarded as a major setback when "Careless Memories" stalled at No. 37 in the UK charts, particularly as it was to herald the June release of the debut album '' Duran Duran''. It has since come to light that the decision to release the single was not the band's but EMI's. After its failure, executives decided to let Duran Duran choose their own single releases. The band's first selection was "Girls on Film" and it duly became their first Top 5 hit in the UK. Background and release ''Greatest'' is an update of the 1989 tenth anniversary compilation album, ''Decade''. The new release includes songs from their eponymous debut album through 1997's ''Medazzaland'' (excluding 1995's ''Thank You''). The album includes all 14 songs featured in ''Decade'', plus "New Moon on Monday" and four singles from the '90s. However, several songs on the disc are presented in their edited forms in order to fit on a single CD.
