''My Friends Told Me About You'' is a short film written, produced, and scored by lead actor Carlos Dengler who is the former bassist of the band Interpol. It is co-written and directed by Daniel Ryan and co-produced by Todd Eckert of award-winning Joy Division biopic, Control. The cast also includes Risa Sarachan as Belle and Fredric Stone as Stanley. The film was shot on digital video tape, in and around the Chicago area during 2007 and 2008. Its narrative employs non-linear, surrealistic techniques influenced by '' Mulholland Drive'', '' Buffalo 66'', and '' The Limey''. The film is included on the DVD magazine Wholphin No. 8. Carlos Andres Dengler (born April 23, 1974), previously known as Carlos D., is an American actor, musician, writer, and filmmaker, known as the former bassist, bass guitarist for American rock music, rock band Interpol (band), Interpol. After departing the band in 2010, he began pursuing an acting career. Early life Dengler was born on April 23, 1974, in Queens, New York, to a Colombian people, Colombian mother and a German father. Interpol is an American Rock music, rock band from Manhattan, New York. ''Control'' is a 2007 British biographical film about the life of Ian Curtis, singer of the late-1970s English post-punk band Joy Division. It is the first feature film directed by Anton Corbijn, who had worked with Joy Division as a photographer. The screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh, was based on the biography '' Touching from a Distance'' by Curtis's widow Deborah, who served as a co-producer on the film. Tony Wilson, who released Joy Division's records through his Factory Records label, also served as a co-producer. ''Wholphin'' was a quarterly DVD magazine containing a selection of short films which had little or no exposure elsewhere. The magazine was created by Dave Eggers and Brent Hoff of McSweeney's publishing house. It was named after the marine animal of the same name, a rare hybrid of a false killer whale and a dolphin, which highlights its unusual nature. Eggers and Hoff claim they were inspired to create it after the Cannes Film Festival, which is one of very few places at which many of these short films can ever be seen. Short films and documentaries have limited exposure to the general public because, in the words of Hoff, "they're too short to show on TV, and they don't play in theaters because they'd rather show some great trivia about Adam Sandler."
