My Father And My Son
''My Father and My Son'' ( tr, Babam ve Oğlum) is a 2005 Turkish drama film written and directed by Çağan Irmak about a family torn apart by the 1980 Turkish coup d'état. The film which went on nationwide release on became one of the highest-grossing Turkish films in history. Plot In order to study journalism at Istanbul University, Sadık leaves his village on the Aegean coast. This angers his father, Hüseyin, who wants him to study Agricultural Engineering so he can manage the family farm. During his years at university Sadık becomes a militant in left wing politics. Upon learning about Sadık's behavior, Hüseyin disowns him. However worse days are ahead for Sadık. In the early hours of the morning on 12 September 1980 Sadık's pregnant wife starts having contractions. Çağan Irmak
Çağan Irmak (born 4 April 1970) is a Turkish film and television writer and director, who has managed to attract a large audience in Turkey and is best known for the TV series '' Çemberimde Gül Oya'' (2004–2005) and ''Asmalı Konak'' (2002–2004), and for the hit films '' Alone'' (2008) and ''My Father and My Son'' (2005), for which he received Turkish Cinema Writers Association Awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Director. He studied Radio, TV and Film Studies at Ege University Faculty of Communications, receiving the Sedat Simavi Award for two short films, ''Masal'' (The Tale) and ''Kurban'' (The Sacrifice), which he made in the course of his studies. Deniz Gezmiş (27 February 1947 – 6 May 1972) was a Turkish Marxist-Leninist revolutionary, student leader, and political activist in Turkey in the late 1960s. He was one of the founding members of the People's Liberation Army of Turkey (THKO). Ethnically Kurdish, he was born to an inspector of primary education and syndicalist Cemil Gezmiş and a primary school teacher Mukaddes Gezmiş. He was educated in various Turkish cities.
