The song was later included on Falco's 1998 album ''Out of the Dark (Into the Light)'' (released posthumously). Background and writing The song is credited to Peter Hoffmann, Franz Plasa, White Duke, and Edgar Höfler. It is based a late 19th century song of the same name about a street vendor, only in Falco's version the vendor is a drug dealer who sells cocaine. Commercial performance The song reached number 3 in Austria and number 11 in Germany. Johann "Hans" Hölzel (; 19 February 1957 – 6 February 1998), better known by his stage name Falco, was an Austrian singer and musician. Falco had several international hits including " Der Kommissar" (1981), "Rock Me Amadeus", "Vienna Calling", " Jeanny", " The Sound of Musik", " Coming Home (Jeanny Part II, One Year Later)", and posthumously " Out of the Dark". Eisregen is a German death metal/black metal band formed in 1995. The members are from Tambach-Dietharz, a village in Thuringia. History In English, Eisregen translates to "ice rain". By using morbid German lyrics unlike those of other bands of this genre, Eisregen got the attention of German authorities, causing the ban by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons of three of their albums in Germany. Stahlhammer (German for "Steel Hammer") is a Neue Deutsche Härte band from Austria that formed in 1992. They incorporate elements from hardcore, groove metal, industrial metal and symphonic metal into their songs. The band has to this date released six albums, where the majority of songs are in German. ''Out of the Dark (Into the Light)'' is the eighth album by Austrian singer Falco, released in 1998. It was released less than a month after Falco's death on 6 February 1998. Background information In 1995, the techno-styled song "Mutter, der Mann mit dem Koks ist da" ("Mother, the man with the coke (cocaine/charcoal) is here") by T>>MA ("T>>MA" as Falco's pseudonym) hit the market and brought the artist back into the charts of all German-speaking countries. In the song Falco plays with the ambiguity of the German word "Koks" which means both cocaine and charcoal. Although Falco's band leader found "Out of the Dark" good enough to be released as the second single, Falco himself wanted it to be released on the album only. The follow up single became " Naked" which was quite successful in Austria but did not meet Falco's expectations in Germany, leading him to postpone the album release.
