Mustang High School
Mustang High School, often shortened to MHS, is a public school located in Mustang, Oklahoma, United States. It is the only secondary school of the Mustang Public Schools public school district and serves well over 3,000 students. The complex contains a large band room, an auditorium, a performing arts center, and three gymnasiums. The school has received a Great Schools rating of 10 out of 10. Sports Mustang offers baseball, softball, boys' basketball, girls' basketball, cheer, boys' cross country, girls' cross country, football, boys' golf, girls' golf, pom, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, swimming, boys' tennis, girls' tennis, boys' track, girls' track, volleyball, and wrestling. Mustang Public Schools, often shortened to MPS, is a public school system headquartered in Mustang, Oklahoma and serving pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Mustang and Oklahoma City. Dennis Byrd
Dennis DeWayne Byrd (October 5, 1966 – October 15, 2016) was an American football defensive end and defensive tackle for the New York Jets of the National Football League. He attended college at the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He played professionally for the Jets for four seasons beginning in 1989. Over his four seasons, he recorded 28 sacks and 110 tackles. His career ended when he was paralyzed following a collision with a teammate during a game. Through rehabilitation, he later managed to walk again. Byrd was killed in a car accident near Claremore, Oklahoma, on October 15, 2016. Career Byrd attended Mustang High School in Mustang, Oklahoma. In his senior year, he was named an All-State defensive end. He enrolled at the University of Tulsa, where he played college football for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Kendall Cross (wrestler)
Kendall Duane Cross (born February 24, 1968) is an American freestyle wrestler, wrestling coach and Olympic gold medalist. He won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, where he wrestled in the 57 kilogram (125.5 pounds) weight class. He defeated Guivi Sissaouri of Canada 5–3 in the final match. Freestyle Wrestling
Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling originated from Great Britain and the United States. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. American high school and men's college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. American collegiate women's wrestling is conducted under freestyle rules. Freestyle wrestling, like collegiate wrestling, has its greatest origins in catch-as-catch-can wrestling. Early years Cooper attended and played football at Mustang High School in Mustang, Oklahoma. Shane Hamman
Shane Hamman (born June 20, 1972) is an American Olympic weightlifter and powerlifter. Early years Shane Hamman was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and brought up in Mustang, Oklahoma. Hamman began to play soccer at the age of 6 until he was 12 years old. In his freshman year of high school, Hamman began football and was a standout for two years on the freshman and varsity squads. He also wrestled his junior year. Hamman grew strong lifting large pallets of produce for his father's fruit market. During high school, he had broken several teenage records. Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights.
