Music Industry Awards
The MIA's, in full Music Industry Awards, are Flemish music prizes that are awarded by the VRT in collaboration with Music Centre Flanders. The prizes replace the ZAMU Awards, last awarded in 2006. The abbreviation MIA is a wink to ''Mia'', a song by Gorki. History The first MIA's were the 2007 MIA's, the winners of which were revealed on 30 January 2008; the show was broadcast by ''Eén'' two days later. There were twelve categories of award, nine of which were voted for by the public, the other three by the music industry itself. In 2007 the singer Milow from Leuven was the biggest winner, scooping three prizes. At the second edition, on 6 February 2009, Milow was again the biggest winner. This time he took home five prizes, including those for best song and best male solo artist. The third show (MIA's 2009) took place on 8 January 2010. Flanders
Flanders (, ; Dutch: ''Vlaanderen'' ) is the Flemish-speaking northern portion of Belgium and one of the communities, regions and language areas of Belgium. Admiral Freebee
Tom Van Laere (born 1975), better known by his stage name Admiral Freebee, is a Belgian singer-songwriter. He took his stage name from the Jack Kerouac novel '' On the Road''. ''Admiral Freebee'' is also the name of a ship that sank in San Francisco Bay and was subsequently used as a buoy. Tom Van Laere is the brother of Tim Van Laere, founder of Tim Van Laere Gallery. The gallery represents Adrian Ghenie, Kati Heck, Rinus Van de Velde, Jonathan Meese, Ben Sledsens and Franz West among others. History Van Laere was born in Brasschaat, near Antwerp. He participated in Humo's Rock Rally, one of the biggest rock competitions in the Low Countries. Backed by a bass guitarist and a drummer he was awarded the silver medal and won the audience's vote. The CATH Protein Structure Classification database is a free, publicly available online resource that provides information on the evolutionary relationships of protein domains. It was created in the mid-1990s by Professor Christine Orengo and colleagues including Janet Thornton and David Jones, and continues to be developed by the Orengo group at University College London. CATH shares many broad features with the SCOP resource, however there are also many areas in which the detailed classification differs greatly. Peter Van De Veire
Peter Van de Veire (born Eeklo, Belgium, 1 December 1971) is a well-known radio personality in Flanders. Early life Van de Veire grew up in the town of Waarschoot. After attaining a degree in communications management, he briefly sold vacuum cleaners door-to-door. Media career In 1993 Van de Veire started working for a local television station before moving on to host Studio.KET on the children's channel Ketnet. In 1999 he became host of ''De Afrekening'', a popular chart show on the youth-oriented channel Studio Brussel. Gotye
Wouter André "Wally" De Backer (born 21 May 1980), better known by his stage name Gotye ( ), is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. The name "Gotye" is a pronunciation respelling of "Gauthier", the French cognate of his Dutch given name "Wouter". Gotye has released three studio albums independently and one album featuring remixes of tracks from his first two albums. He is a founding member of the Melbourne indie-pop trio The Basics, who have independently released four studio albums and numerous other titles since 2002. Jonathan Ivo Gilles Vandenbroeck (; born 14 July 1981), known professionally as Milow, is a Belgian singer-songwriter. Milow released his debut album, ''The Bigger Picture'', in 2006 on his own label Homerun Records. The fourth single from that album, "You Don't Know," became one of the biggest hit singles of the year in Belgium in 2007, and ''The Bigger Picture'' stayed on the Belgian album chart for 110 weeks.
