Music '89
Music '89 was the first ever all pop music stage-show to be aired on Pakistan TV. Music '89 pop music show This music show was aired in January 1989, on PTV (Pakistan state run TV channel). The show was directed by Shoaib Mansoor and hosted by the famous pop singer Nazia Hassan and her brother, Zohaib Hassan. It was a revolutionary show that introduced a new breed of young musicians post- Nazia and Zoheb. The show was the launching pad for much new talent in Pakistan and many new artistes including Vital Signs, Ali Haider, Sajjad Ali, Jupiters, Strings, while also introducing underground, "alternative" bands including Final Cut and The Barbarians (Pakistani band). Shoaib Mansoor
Shoaib Mansoor (Full name, Shoaib Mansoor), ( ur, ; born 4 February 1951 Karachi) is a Pakistani television and film director, writer, producer, lyricist and musician of Muhajir origin. Active in the television industry since 1980, he first found success for composing and writing the song Dil Dil Pakistan in 1987, thereby introducing Vital Signs musical band in mainstream Pakistani television. He was also well-recognised for directing many critically acclaimed hit drama series on Pakistani television. He became internationally known and popular for directing TV shows including the 1982 classic ''Ankahi,'' comedy series ''Fifty Fifty'' (1980) and the travel documentary show , Gulls and Guys which was sponsored by the John Player Gold Leaf company and which was a commercial success reality show, and the military fiction series, ''Alpha Bravo Charlie'' (1998). Nazia Hassan
Nazia Hassan (3 April 1965 – 13 August 2000) was a Pakistani singer-songwriter, lawyer and social activist. Referred to as the Honorific nicknames in popular music, Queen of South Asian pop, she is considered one of the most influential singers in the subcontinent. Starting in the 1980s, as part of the duo Nazia and Zoheb, she and her brother Zoheb Hassan, have sold over 65 million records worldwide. Hassan made her singing debut with the song "Aap Jaisa Koi", which appeared in the Cinema of India, Indian film ''Qurbani (film), Qurbani'' in 1980. Zohaib Hassan
Zoheb Hassan (born November 18, 1966) is a Pakistani pop icon, singer, songwriter, producer, and was a part of the superduo Nazia and Zoheb. Early career and breakthrough Zoheb and his sister Nazia spent their childhood in Karachi as well as London. After the release of their first album, ''Disco Deewane'', Nazia and Zoheb became the South-Asian sub-continent's first pop icons. Vital Signs (band)
Vital Signs () were a Pakistani pop and rock band formed in Rawalpindi in 1986 by two Peshawar University students. After their formation, they soon became Pakistan's first and most commercially successful as well as critically acclaimed act. The band's popular lineup consisted of keyboardist Rohail Hyatt, bassist Shahzad Hasan, guitarist Nusrat Hussain and vocalist Junaid Jamshed. Ali Haider (singer)
Ali Haider (Urdu:علی حیدر, born 22 September 1967) is a Pakistani singer. He had a number of songs in the 1990s, including "Poorani Jeans", which appears on his 1993 album ''Sandesa''. Career He acted in a Pakistani film Chalo Ishq Larain, released in 2002. In 2012, he returned to music after a three-year break following the death of his son. Jupiters
The Jupiters () were a Pakistani music band who are considered one of the pioneers of pop music in Pakistan. Although the band released only a few albums, it became a breeding ground for many notable future singers. The hit song "Yaaro Yehi Dosti Hai" sung by one of the vocalists Ali Azmat topped the charts in the early 1990s, and is still a famous number. The band disbanded in the late 1990s and is remembered as a party band in the city of Lahore. The drummer-cum-composer developed an A. R. Strings (Pakistani Pop Band)
Strings () was a Pakistani pop/rock band composed of two members, plus four live band members from Karachi, Pakistan. The band was initially formed by four college students—Bilal Maqsood (vocals and guitars), Faisal Kapadia (vocals), Rafiq Wazir Ali (synthesizer) and Kareem Bashir Bhoy (bass guitar)—in 1988. In 1992 the quartet disbanded, only to make a comeback with Maqsood and Kapadia in 2000. While the initial band rode the new wave of Pakistani pop music, the later lineup ushered a revival in the Pakistani music industry. In 1990 the band signed with EMI Records and released their debut album, ''Strings''. Their initial experiments with synthesized sounds and rhythms were not immediately recognised, although ''Strings'' sold 20,000 copies during its first week after release. Final Cut (band)
Final Cut was a techno-industrial band formed in Detroit, Michigan and led by Anthony Srock with a revolving cast of guest musicians. History Srock, then a DJ in Detroit, formed Final Cut (sometimes preceded by ''The'') in the late 1980s as a collaboration with DJ Jeff Mills. They released their debut single "Take Me Away" in 1989 and the album '' Deep in 2 the Cut'' later that year. Final Cut was noted for mixing established industrial music with Detroit techno, with a sound comparable to heavy metal but made with machines rather than guitars. ''Deep in 2 the Cut'' gained appreciation years later as an influential early entry in the development of industrial music.
