Tower Of Kamyanyets
The Tower of Kamyenyets, often called by the misnomer the White Tower ( be, Белая вежа, transliteration: ''Bielaya Vieža'' or ''Belaya Vezha''), is the main landmark of the town of Kamyenyets in Belarus. The name ''Bielaja Vieža'' (alternative transliteration: ''Belaya Vezha''), which literally means ''White Tower'' or ''White Fortress'' in Belarusian language, Belarusian, presumably derives from the tower's proximity to the Belavezhskaya Pushcha Forest, but not from its color, which has been brick-red through the ages, never white. The first record in the chronicles about the foundation of the tower dates from 1276. Erected between 1271 and 1289 by the architect Oleksa as a frontier fortification, stronghold on the northern border of the Principality of Volhynia, it is the only such tower remaining to this day in Belarus. The Vitebsk Regional History Museum (russian: Витебский областной краеведческий музей) is a museum in Vitebsk, Belarus. History Its history begins in the 19th Century, when in 1868 the city opened its first museum in through the Governmental Statistics Committee. In 1918 the Vitebsk Governmental Museum was created through the donations of the private collection of A. Brodovskiy. In 1924 the Vitebsk Department Belgos museum opened, aggregating the previous collections of the Church Archeology Museum, the Vitebsk Archival Commission's Museum, the History Museum of Vitebsk Statistics Committee, and the private collections of V. Fedorovich and A. Brodovski. Also in 1924, it moved to its current location in the city hall, whose 18th century architecture is a symbol of Vitebsk. Vitebsk Museum of Modern Art (russian: Витебский Музей Современного Искусства) was an art museum in Vitebsk, Belarus organized in 1918 by Marc Chagall, Kazimir Malevich and Alexander Romm. In 1921, it exhibited 120 paintings "representing all the movements of the contemporary art from the Academic Realism to Impressionism to Suprematism". In the mid-1920s, the museum was closed. While some paintings have found their way to museums of Russia and Belarus, the whereabouts of many paintings are unknown. History The history of the museum starts in 1918. On 12 September 1918, painter Marc Chagall, then the Commissar of Arts for Vitebsk Region, went to Petrograd for getting the official approval for his idea to organize a Museum of Modern Art in Vitebsk. The Virtual Museum of Soviet Repression in Belarus ( be, Віртуальны музей савецкіх рэпрэсій у Беларусі) is a non-commercial project of oral history from historians and other scientists from Belarus. Created as a virtual museum, it covers Soviet repression in Belarus. Background In 2007, the Belarusian Christian Democracy party launched a campaign called "Repentance". The campaign began meeting with former prisoners of camps, record their memories, and collect materials on the subject of repression. In 2012, an independent civic initiative was formed, which began to create a Virtual museum of Soviet repression in Belarus. The basis for the museum was materials collected during the campaign "Repentance". In 2014, a website for the virtual museum was created. Old Belarusian History Museum
Old Belarusian History Museum is a museum in Minsk, Belarus. The museum was founded in 1977 as a center for the study and promotion of the Belarusian artistic heritage. The basis of the museum collection includes unique exhibits collected for many years by the staff of the Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore named after K. Krapiva (IIEF) in the course of art criticism and ethnographic expeditions throughout Belarus. Exhibition The total area is , while the exhibition area is 600 m2.
