Museum Of Goa
The Museum of Goa (MOG), is a privately owned contemporary art gallery in Pilerne Industrial Estate, near Calangute, Goa, India. Founded in 2015, it is 1,500 square meters in size. It has no permanent collection. It was founded by Goan artist Subodh Kerkar. The museum organises various exhibitions, art courses, plays, residencies, workshops, book readings, lectures, screenings and talks. History Kerkar had purchased this land more than 20 years ago when the government was trying to attract people to set up industries in the area. Later, when he got a notice from the government since his land was not utilized, he decided to start the museum. For this, he sold another piece of land and received INR 3.5 crore that was used to create the museum. The three-storey gallery building was designed by Dean D'Cruz, and was completed in 2015 on the site of Kerkar's former studio. A sculpture garden at the site is present. Subodh Kerkar
Subodh Kerkar (born 26 August 1959) is an Indian painter, sculptor and installation artist, and founder of the private art gallery Museum of Goa. He is known for his artworks and installations. Kerkar's work has been displayed in India and abroad, including at art exhibitions such as the Sculpture by the Sea in 2011 and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2018. One of his recent installations is the 2017 ''Carpet of Joy.'' Another, a 2018 photo exhibition on fishermen (chosen for the Royal Academy exhibition), was chosen by filmmaker Bharat Bala to be the subject of a documentary. He has spoken at Visva-Bharati University and the Van Gogh Museum. Calangute
Calangute is a town in the North Goa district of the Indian state of Goa. It is famous for its beach, the largest in North Goa and a popular tourist destination. The peak tourist season is during Christmas and New Year, and during the summer in May. During the monsoon season, from June through September, the sea can be rough and swimming is prohibited. Pilerne is a village situated in north Goa in the Bardez taluka of the North Goa district. It is rustic despite being fairly close to the North Goa tourist belt, and is considered a Census Town for the purposes of the Census. The village has mainly been inhabited by Goan Catholics. Konkani Language
Konkani () is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Konkani people, primarily in the Konkan region, along the western coast of India. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution, and the official language of the Indian state of Goa. It is a minority language in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat & Damaon, Diu & Silvassa. Konkani is a member of the Southern Indo-Aryan language group. ''The Navhind Times'' is an English language newspaper in Goa. Founded in 1963 and based in Panaji, the capital of Goa, it is the largest selling newspaper, amongst the three locally published English newspapers in the state.
