The Museo Nazionale d'Abruzzo is hosted in the Forte Spagnolo of L'Aquila. The Museum is on three floors: on the ground floor, there is the giant skeleton of an Archidiskon meridionalis (improperly called mammoth, a prehistoric "elephant") found a few miles from Aquila in 1954, and an archeological section with pieces of the Italic pre-Roman period, a section with inscriptions and pieces from the Roman towns in Abruzzo, among them a fine Roman calendar from Amiternum (25 AD). Remo Brindisi (25 April 1918 – 25 July 1996) was an Italian painter. Biography Born in Rome, Brindisi was trained by his father, a skilled wood carver, in Pescara and L'Aquila. Having attended the Experimental Centre of Stage Design in Rome for a short period during 1935, he obtained a grant to study at the Institute of Book Decoration and Illustration in Urbino, where he specialized in graphic art and printmaking and served a professional apprenticeship as an illustrator. Orfeo Tamburi (1910–1994) was an Italian painter and scenic designer. Biography He was born in Jesi, and graduated from the local Istituto Tecnico in 1926. Giuseppe Capogrossi (7 March 1900 – 9 October 1972) was an Italian painter. Biography Capogrossi was born in Rome. After obtaining a degree in law in 1923–1924, he decided to study painting with Felice Carena at Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. Francesco de Mura (21 April 1696 – 19 August 1782) was an Italian painter of the late- Baroque period, active mainly in Naples and Turin. His late work reflects the style of neoclassicism. Sebastiano Conca (8 January 1680 – 1 September 1764) was an Italian painter. Biography He was born at Gaeta, then part of the Kingdom of Naples, and apprenticed in Naples under Francesco Solimena.
