Murray House
Murray House is a Victorian-era building in Stanley, Hong Kong. Built in the present-day business district of Central in 1846 as officers' quarters of the Murray Barracks, the building was moved to the south of Hong Kong Island during the 2000s.This building has become an iconic landmark in Hong Kong. After housing the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, now in Stanley, it is now home to restaurants and shops. Architecture Murray House was one of the oldest surviving public buildings in Hong Kong. Similar to many of its contemporaries from the early colonial era, it was designed in Classical architecture style. The heavy stone walls (with flat arched opening) are on the ground floor to give a sense of stability, while the lighter Doric and Ionic columns are on the floors above to allow better ventilation. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991. After Marshall, Thomas is the second African American to serve on the Court and its longest-serving member since Anthony Kennedy's retirement in 2018. Thomas was born in Pin Point, Georgia. After his father abandoned the family, he was raised by his grandfather in a poor Gullah community near Savannah. The Thomas Murray House is a colonial home situated on the Eastern Branch Elizabeth River at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The house was constructed in 1791 by Isaac Murray for his son, Thomas. The house was saved from being demolished in the 1950s and restored to its original elegance. The house features a dated brick on the top of the eastern chimney with the initials "I.M" (for Isaac Murray) and the date of "1791". The house was built with a central floor plan. A Recreation "Smokehouse" and "carriage house" were added to the property in 1988. The property has the original working well. Across the River the Richard Murray house is visible. Long, McCorkle and Murray Houses is a set of three historic homes and national historic district located at Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina.
