Murray Dodd
Murray Dodd (May 23, 1843 – August 25, 1905) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Cape Breton in the House of Commons of Canada from 1882 to 1887 as a Conservative member. He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, the son of judge Edmund Murray Dodd and Caroline Maria Ritchie, a granddaughter of David Mathews, the Loyalist Mayor of New York City under the British during the American Revolution, and a descendant of the prominent Schuyler family of New York City. He was educated in Sydney and Sackville. He was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1865 and practised in Sydney. In 1879, he married Laura Isabel Archibald. Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia
Lower Sackville is a community within the urban area of Halifax Regional Municipality, in Nova Scotia, Canada. History Before the European colonization in 1749, the Mi'kmaq lived in this area for thousands of years. In August 1749, Captain John Gorham, acting on orders from Governor Edward Cornwallis to establish a military fort named Fort Sackville. (The community was named after George Germain, 1st Viscount Sackville.). As the community grew, the oak trees that lined the main drive were cut down one-by-one due to poor urban planning. As more homes were desired, the farmlands made way for further urbanization. Newton LeGayet Mackay (1832 – May 20, 1886) was a Canadian lawyer and political figure. He represented Cape Breton in the House of Commons of Canada from 1872 to 1878 as a Conservative and then Liberal member. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the son of William McKay, and was educated there. Mackay was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1859 and named a Queen's Counsel in 1872. William Mackenzie McLeod
William Mackenzie McLeod (July 4, 1854 – June 13, 1932) was a Canadian physician and politician. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, McLeod was educated at Sydney Academy and Dalhousie University. He took his medical course in New York City at Bellevue Hospital Medical College graduating in 1875. In 1889 and 1890 he also took special courses in the diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat at New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital. From 1875 until 1879, he practiced his profession in Sydney, when he entered the political field and was elected to the House of Commons of Canada succeeding his brother, Hugh McLeod, to represent the riding of Cape Breton. A Liberal-Conservative, he was defeated in 1882. In 1883, he was appointed Medical Superintendent of Quarantine at Sydney. Each General Assembly of the legislature of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, consists of one or more sessions and comes to an end upon dissolution (or constitutionally by the effluxion of time — approximately five years) and an ensuing general election. Cromarty Tennis Club is a private tennis club situated in the community of Sydney, part of Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Cromarty Tennis Club is one of the oldest tennis clubs in Nova Scotia, established at its present location along Reservoir Brook (formerly Wentworth Creek or Sullivan's Brook), in Sydney in 1902. The club's address is 65 Cromarty Street, Sydney. Cromarty Tennis Club is a member of Tennis Nova Scotia.
