Murfreesboro Cities Service Station
The Murfreesboro Cities Service Station is a historic automotive service station on Arkansas Highway 26, facing the northeast side of the town square in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. It is a simple single-story brick building with a cross-gable roof and modest English Revival styling. It was built in 1939 by A. P. Terrell, a local builder, using bricks from a building that had previously stood on the site. It was operated as a Cities Service (later Citgo) gas station into the 1980s, and was purchased by the Murfreesboro Community Foundation in 1989. The building plan for this structure is similar to that of other surviving Cities Service stations, including a station in Rison and another in Clinton. The station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Murfreesboro, Arkansas
Murfreesboro is a city in, and the county seat of, Pike County, Arkansas, United States. Its population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. The city is known for the Crater of Diamonds State Park located south of the city. History In 1906, diamonds were found on a local farm. It was determined that an 80-acre (32 ha) volcanic formation was the source of the diamonds. The property was eventually sold to the state of Arkansas, which opened the 37-acre Crater of Diamonds State Park to the public. As a tourist attraction a daily fee ($10 in 2021) is charged to search for diamonds. Also located in Murfreesboro is the 1,000-year-old Ka-Do-Ha Indian Village and museum dedicated to it, which offers a field that can be excavated for authentic arrowheads. Jones General Store And Esso Station
The Jones General Store and Esso Station is a historic Esso automotive service station and general store on Arkansas Highway 84 in Langley, Arkansas. It is a single-story structure built out of fieldstone, with concrete door and window lintels. The car porch extends in front of the building, supported by three fieldstone columns topped by simple capitals. It was built in 1939, and served as the town's general store, operated by Johnny Jones, until the 1980s, when the store closed and the building was converted to residential use. The building is locally significant in part for a circular millstone, used in the town's first gristmill, which is embedded in the wall near the eastern corner. Clinton is the county seat of Van Buren County, Arkansas, United States. The Walter Patterson Filling Station is a historic automotive service station building on United States Route 65 in central Clinton, Arkansas. It is a small single-story brick building, with a steeply pitched gable roof. The front of the building is symmetrical, with a central entrance flanked by square single-pane display windows, and a cross-gable above the entrance. Built in 1936, it is the only gas station from that period to survive in the city, and is a good example of commercial English Revival architecture. Rison is a city in and the county seat of Cleveland County, Arkansas, United States. Its population was 1,344 at the 2010 U.S. census. It is included in the Pine Bluff, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rison is a bedroom community for people who work in Pine Bluff (in neighboring Jefferson County).
