Murena (comic Book)
''Murena'' is Belgian comic book written by Jean Dufaux and drawn by Philippe Delaby. The series is set in ancient Rome, around 54 AD, when Emperor Nero seized power. The strip is mainly characterized by its realistic style and the additional historical information. The first volume was published by Dargaud in 1997. After the death of Phillipe Delaby in 2014, Theo Caneschi took over as the series' artist. Synopsis The story begins in ancient Rome during the reign of Emperor Claudius. The Emperor fell in love with a young woman, leaving alone the terrible Agrippina and her adopted son, the future Emperor Nero. After Claudius was murdered, Nero ascends the throne and becomes the prey of madness, real or imagined, that consumes him. Through these episodes, we see how Nero, by a combination of circumstances, becomes more and more evil. A game of manipulation and revenge begins... Carlo Murena (Rome, 1713–1764) was an Italian architect of the late-Baroque period active in Rome, Foligno, Perugia, and other towns in central Italy. He was a pupil of Niccolo Salvi, but was sent to train with Luigi Vanvitelli, who was then building the Lazzaretto of Ancona. Works Murena completed a church of Monte Morcino at Perugia for the Olivetan monks. He designed the tabernacle for the Cathedral of Terni. At Foligno, he designed the church of the Holy Trinity. Lucius Licinius Murena (praetor 88 BC)
Lucius Licinius Murena was a Roman soldier and politician. He was notable for playing an important role in the Roman victory against the forces of Mithridates VI of Pontus at the Battle of Chaeronea in 86 BC during the First Mithridatic War and for engaging in another war, the Second Mithridatic War (83–81 BC), against Mithridates in Asia Minor without the authorisation of the Roman senate. Life Murena was a praetor probably in 88 BC. was a lieutenant of Lucius Cornelius Sulla during the First Mithridatic War (89–85 BC) with Mithridates VI of Pontus. He participated in the Battle of Chaeronea of 86 BC. Sulla encamped near Chaeronea, close to the camp of Archelaus, the commander of the enemy. He left Murena behind with one legion and two cohorts to face the enemy, should they prepare for battle, and went to Chaeronea, where the Romans had a garrison. Lucius Licinius Murena (consul)
Lucius Licinius Murena was a Roman politician and soldier. He was an officer (legate) in the Third Mithridatic War, a governor (propraetor) of Gallia Transalpina from 64 to 63 BC and a consul in 62 BC. He stood trial because of charges of electoral bribery. Cicero, who defended him, immortalized him in one of his published speeches. Life Lucius Licinius Murena was son and namesake of Lucius Licinius Murena who had fought in the Second Mithridatic War. He began his public career as quaestor in c. 75 BC. When the Third Mithridatic War began, in 73 BC, Murena was appointed ''legatus'' for, Lucius Licinius Lucullus, the proconsul in charge of the Roman war effort in the east and a fellow Licinius. Aulus Terentius Varro Murena (died 24 BC) was a Roman general and politician of the 1st century BC. Biography Murena was the natural born son of Aulus Terentius Varro, and adopted brother to Lucius Licinius Varro Murena. He was well connected to the Augustan regime, with his sister, Terentia, married to Gaius Maecenas, the prominent adviser and friend of Augustus and patron of the arts, while his half-brother, Gaius Proculeius, was an intimate friend of Augustus during his rise to power. Augustus dispatched Murena to lead an expedition against the Salassi tribe of the Aosta Valley region in the northwestern Alps in 25 BC. The Salassi had proved troublesome to Roman armies using the Great St Bernard pass, which, as the shortest route from Italy to the Upper Rhine river, had become strategically vital to the Romans since the completion of Julius Caesar's conquest of Gaul in 51 BC. Tony Muréna (1917 – 1970) was an Italian-born Bal-musette, Musette accordionist and jazz composer who lived and worked in France. Life and career Antonio Muréna was born in Borgo Val di Taro, Italy. His family emigrated to France in 1923 and settled in Nogent-sur-Marne. His uncle gave him his first accordion and he began a performing career assisted by his cousin Louis Ferrari. Muréna played in cabarets and music halls from an early age. In 1932 Muréna began to play the bandoneón in Tango music, tango orchestras, including that of Rafael Canaro, Rafael and Eduardo Bianco Canaro, at French clubs including La Boule Noire, Java, The Silhouette, Balajo (:fr:rue de Lappe, rue de Lappe), Pré Catelan and Ciro's. Matra Murena
The Matra Murena is a mid-engined, rear wheel drive sports car that was produced from 1980 through 1983 by the French engineering group Matra. The factory was located in the commune of Romorantin-Lanthenay in the department of Loir-et-Cher in central France. Development history The Murena, whose name is Italian for "Moray", was the successor to the Matra Bagheera, a similar vehicle that resulted from an earlier collaboration between Matra and Simca. Development proceeded under two project names; "M551" for the 1.6-litre version and "M552" for the 2.2-litre version.
