Murder In Trinidad (novel)
''Murder in Trinidad'' is a 1933 mystery novel by the British-born American writer John Vandercook. It was the first in series of four novels by Vandercook featuring Bertram Lynch, a British investigator working for the League of Nations. It was followed by ''Murder in Fiji'' in 1936 and two further entries in the 1950s. The novels are narrated by Robert Deane, a professor of history from Yale who Lynch befriends on board ship. Synopsis Lynch is called to Trinidad, a British colony, to investigate opium smugglers based on the island. The previous man on the job has been killed, and Lynch and his new friend Deane go undercover to infiltrate the criminal's base in the middle of a swamp. Lynch also uncovers the truth about the murder of a past governor of the island several years before. John Vandercook
John Womack Vandercook (April 22, 1902 – January 6, 1963) was a British-born American writer of mystery and travel books as well as a radio commentator. Personal life Son of John Filkin Vandercook, who was the first president of the United Press Association and Margaret Vandercook, a well-known author of children's literature (most notably the Camp Fire Girls'' series). John W. Vandercook was born in London, where his father was working at the time, but grew up in Delaware County, New York. He graduated from St. Paul's School (New York) in Garden City, Long Island and attended Yale University. He died in Delhi, New York on January 6, 1963. Professional life In the 1920s, John W. Peter Lorre
Peter Lorre (; born László Löwenstein, ; June 26, 1904 – March 23, 1964) was a Hungarian and American actor, first in Europe and later in the United States. He began his stage career in Vienna, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, before moving to Germany where he worked first on the stage, then in film in Berlin in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Lorre caused an international sensation in the Weimar Republic-era film '' M'' (1931), directed by Fritz Lang, in which he portrayed a serial killer who preys on little girls. Of Jewish descent, Lorre left Germany after Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power. James Dunn (actor)
James Howard Dunn (November 2, 1901September 1, 1967), billed as Jimmy Dunn in his early career, was an American stage, film, and television actor, and vaudeville performer. The son of a New York stockbroker, he initially worked in his father's firm but was more interested in theater. He landed jobs as an extra in short films produced by Paramount Pictures in its Long Island studio, and also performed with several stock theater companies, culminating with playing the male lead in the 1929 Broadway musical '' Sweet Adeline''. ''The Crime Club'' was an imprint of the Doubleday publishing company, which later spawned a 1946-47 anthology radio series, and a 1937-1939 film series. Literature Many classic and popular works of detective and mystery fiction had their first U.S. editions published via the Crime Club, including all 50 books of The Saint by Leslie Charteris (1928-1983). The imprint also published first editions in Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu series. The Crime Club began life in 1928 with the publication of ''The Desert Moon Mystery'' by Kay Cleaver Strahan, and ceased publication in 1991. In the intervening 63 years, The Crime Club published 2,492 titles.
