Murder, Inc. (band)
Murder, Inc. was an American industrial music supergroup formed in 1991, featuring vocalist Chris Connelly, Killing Joke members Geordie Walker, Paul Raven, "Big Paul" Ferguson, John Bechdel, and former Public Image Ltd drummer Martin Atkins. Formation Martin Atkins joined Killing Joke as their drummer and later their manager in 1990. The band recorded the 1990 album '' Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions'' after which they parted ways with singer Jaz Coleman. Keeping the line-up of Killing Joke (minus Coleman) together, Atkins formed Murder, Inc., recruiting Chris Connelly (who had worked with Ministry amongst others) to replace Coleman and former Killing Joke member Paul Ferguson as a second drummer. The band released their debut EP, ''Corpuscle'', which featured tracks remixed by J. G. Thirlwell, in 1991 followed by their eponymous album in 1992. Supergroup (music)
A supergroup is a musical group whose members are successful as solo artists or as members of other successful groups. The term became popular in the late 1960s when members of already successful rock groups recorded albums together, after which they normally disband. Charity supergroups, in which prominent musicians perform or record together in support of a particular cause, have been common since the 1980s. The term is most common context of rock and pop music, but it has occasionally been applied to other musical genres. For example, opera superstars The Three Tenors ( José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti) have been called a supergroup. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as ''All Music Guide'' by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. The Damage Manual was an industrial music, industrial supergroup (bands), supergroup formed in 2000. It featured Martin Atkins on drums and loops, Chris Connelly (musician), Chris Connelly on vocals, Geordie Walker on guitar and Jah Wobble on bass. A second lineup saw Steven Seibold of the band Hate Dept. replacing both Walker and Wobble after their departure. History Originally stemming from discussions between Atkins and Wobble, Walker was brought aboard when Wobble expressed interest in working with him. After writing and arranging material through exchanging recordings from their own respective studios, the trio had put together a batch of instrumental ideas in need of a vocalist. Jah Wobble
John Joseph Wardle (born 11 August 1958), known by the stage name Jah Wobble, is an English bass guitarist and singer. He became known to a wider audience as the original bass player in Public Image Ltd (PiL) in the late 1970s and early 1980s; he left the band after two albums. Following his departure from PiL, he developed a solo career. In 2012, he reunited with fellow PiL guitarist Keith Levene for Metal Box in Dub and the album ''Yin & Yang''. Since 2013, he has been one of the featured pundits on Sunday morning's ''The Virtual Jukebox'' segment of BBC Radio 5 Live's '' Up All Night'' with Dotun Adebayo. ''Whiplash Boychild'' is the solo debut album by Scottish musician and singer-songwriter Chris Connelly, who is best known for his work for bands such as Ministry, The Revolting Cocks, and Pigface. It was released in 1991 through Wax Trax! Records. The album also features session contributions from drummer William Rieflin, and bass guitarist Stuart Zechman, who later reunited with Connelly on his next album, ''Phenobarb Bambalam'' (1992). The record stylistically differs from Wax Trax!'s industrial music-indebted catalogue, incorporating influences from Scott Walker, David Bowie and Marc Bolan, as well as experimenting with avant-garde song structures. It takes its title from a lyric from the Velvet Underground song, "Venus in Furs". Murder, Inc. (Murder, Incorporated) was an organized crime group, active from 1929 to 1941, that acted as the enforcement arm of the National Crime Syndicatea closely connected criminal organization that included the Italian-American Mafia, the Jewish Mob, and other criminal organizations in New York City and elsewhere. Murder, Inc. was composed of Jewish and Italian-American gangsters, and members were mainly recruited from poor and working-class Jewish and Italian neighborhoods in Manhattan (primarily the Lower East Side) and Brooklyn (primarily the neighborhoods of Brownsville, East New York, and Ocean Hill).
