Muratti Vase
The Muratti Vase is an annual men's and women's football competition, inaugurated in 1905, between teams representing the Channel Islands of Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey. The larger islands of Guernsey and Jersey dominate the competition, with Alderney's sole match final championship victory occurring in 1920. History Since its inception, the competition has been interrupted only between 1915–1919 and 1940–1946 due to the First and Second World Wars. The teams wear their island colours of green and white (Guernsey) and red and white (Jersey) and blue and white (Alderney). The competition is sponsored by Hepburns Insurance and now includes Ladies', under 21s and an under 18s competition for men. The tournament consists of a semi-final and a final. Saint Helier
St Helier (; Jèrriais: ; french: Saint-Hélier) is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands in the English Channel. St Helier has a population of 35,822 – over one-third of the total population of Jersey – and is the Capital city, capital of the island. The town of St Helier is the largest settlement and only town of Jersey. The Alderney official football team is the official football team representing Alderney (the third largest of the Channel Islands) in non-FIFA international football. They play their home matches at Arsenal Ground (Saint Anne), Arsenal Ground. They are not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA. The team plays in the Muratti Vase, a cup competition started in 1905, in which the Channel Islands of Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey play against each other. Alderney have only won the competition once, in 1920. The Muratti format requires Alderney to play a semi-final match against the other islands on a rota basis but always with Alderney being the home side. The winner of the match goes on to play the remaining island in the final. Alderney also play the occasional game outside the Muratti competition including taking part in the Island Games football tournament in 2003 in which they finished 11th out of a pool of 15. Maya Le Tissier (born 18 April 2002) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for Manchester United of the English Women's Super League (WSL). She has been capped internationally by England. Club career St. Martins A.C. Le Tissier grew up on the channel island of Guernsey. Muratti is a brand of cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by Philip Morris International. There are many different Muratti variants introduced over the years, and they were also sold as ''Ambassador'', ''Ariston'', ''Cabinet'', ''Gentry'', ''Iplic'', ''Peer'' and ''Regent''. The military occupation of the Channel Islands by Nazi Germany lasted for most of the Second World War, from 30 June 1940 until liberation on 9 May 1945. The Bailiwick of Jersey and Bailiwick of Guernsey are two island countries and British Crown dependencies in the English Channel, near the coast of Normandy. The Channel Islands were the only ''de jure'' part of the British Empire to be occupied by Nazi Germany during the war. Blason is a form of poetry. The term originally comes from the heraldic term "blazon" in French heraldry, which means either the codified description of a coat of arms or the coat of arms itself. The Guernsey official football team is the official football team representing the island of Guernsey (which is not part of the United Kingdom, but is a Crown dependency) in non-FIFA international football matches. It is not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA, and therefore cannot compete for the FIFA World Cup or UEFA European Football Championship.
