Murat Bektanov
Murat Käribaiūly Bektanov ( kk, Мұрат Кәрібайұлы Бектанов, translit=Mūrat Kärıbaiūly Bektanov) is a Kazakh military leader and was the Minister of Defence. He previously served as the Chief of the General Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the Kazakh Ground Forces. Early life and career Born in the village of Sokolovka in North Kazakhstan Region, Bektanov graduated from the Kiev Higher Combined Arms Command School in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. From 1989–1990, he commanded a motorized rifle platoon of the Soviet Army. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, he served as head of an intelligence unit of an airborne assault battalion. From 1993–1997, he was the commander of a platoon at the Alma-Ata Higher All-Arms Command School. The Order of Glory (russian: Орден Славы) was a military decoration of the Soviet Union established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet on November 8, 1943. It was awarded to soldiers and non-commissioned officers of the Red Army as well as to aviation junior lieutenants, for bravery in the face of the enemy. The 2022 Kazakh unrest, also known as Bloody January () or the January tragedy (), was a series of mass protests that began in Kazakhstan on 2 January 2022 after a sudden sharp increase in liquefied gas prices following the lifting of a government-enforced price cap on 1 January. The protests began peacefully in the oil-producing city of Zhanaozen and quickly spread to other cities in the country, especially the nation's largest city Almaty, which saw its demonstrations turn into violent riots, fueled by rising dissatisfaction with the government and economic inequality. During the week-long violent unrest and crackdowns, 227 people were killed and over 9,900 were arrested, according to Kazakh officials. Smaiylov Cabinet
The Smaiylov Cabinet is the 12th composition of the Government of Kazakhstan under the leadership of Prime Minister Alihan Smaiylov. It was formed after the previous government, led by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, was dismissed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on 5 January 2022 as a result of the 2022 Kazakh protests. The Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (russian: Военная академия Генерального штаба Вооруженных Сил Российской Федерации) is the senior staff college of the Russian Armed Forces. The academy is located in Moscow, on 14 Kholzunova Lane. It was founded in 1936 as a Soviet institution, based on higher command courses that had been established at the M. V. Alma-Ata Higher All-Arms Command School
Almaty (; kk, Алматы; ), formerly known as Alma-Ata ( kk, Алма-Ата), is the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of about 2 million. Kazakh Air Assault Forces
The Kazakh Air Assault Forces (; ) or the Airmobile Forces (; ) are the paratrooper branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It falls under the subordination of the Kazakh Ground Forces and is part of the Reserve of the Supreme High Command, Reserve of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. History The Airmobile Forces were formed by grouping the 35th Guards Air Assault Brigade with new brigades formed from previous Soviet units.
