Mununjali
The Mununjali clan are one of nine distinct named clan estate groups of the Yugambeh people, an Aboriginal Australian nation whose traditional lands are the Beaudesert area in the Scenic Rim, Queensland, Australia. Name The ethnonym ''Mununjali'' has been related to a Yugambeh word, ''munun'', which refers to a type of "black soil" with ''-jali'' meaning "people" and thus means "Black Earth People". Their country was typified by the abundance of black soil. Language The Mununjali people spoke a dialect, of which a few hundred words have been preserved, of the Yugambeh language. The Yugambeh ( ''(see alternative spellings)'', also known as the Minyangbal ( , are an Aboriginal Australian people of south-east Queensland and the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, their territory lies between the Logan and Tweed rivers. A term for an Aboriginal of the Yugambeh tribe is Mibunn (also written as ''Miban/Mibanj'', ''Mibin, Mibiny, Mebbon, Meebin''), which is derived from the word for the Wedge-tailed Eagle. Historically, some anthropologists have erroneously referred to them as the Chepara (also written as ''Chipara, Tjapera''), the term for a first-degree initiate. Chelsea Watego
Chelsea Joanne Watego (formerly Bond, born 1978/1979) is an Aboriginal Australian academic and writer. She is a Mununjali Yugambeh and South Sea Islander woman and is currently Professor of Indigenous Health at Queensland University of Technology. Her first book, ''Another Day in the Colony'', was published in 2021. Personal life Watego was born in 1978 or 1979 in Brisbane, Queensland, and is the daughter of Vern and Elaine Watego. Vern was Mununjali Yugambeh (an Australian Aboriginal group whose traditional lands are located around Beaudesert in South East Queensland) and South Sea Islander, while Elaine is of English and Irish descent. Wanggeriburra Clan
The Wanggeriburra clan are one of nine distinct named clan estate groups of the Yugambeh people and the name refers to the Indigenous people of the Tamborine area in the Scenic Rim, Queensland, Australia. Name The ethnonym Wanggeriburra has been related to a Yugambeh word, Wanggeri, which refers to the Pretty-faced Wallaby with -burra meaning "people" and thus means "Pretty-faced Wallaby People". This may have been a clan totem or food source that typified their country. Beaudesert is a rural town and locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Beaudesert had a population of 6,395 people. Beaudesert is the administrative centre for the Scenic Rim Region. Geography Beaudesert is south of Brisbane and west of the Gold Coast. Yugambeh Language
Yugambeh (or ''Mibanah'', from , 'language of men' or 'sound of eagles'), also known as Tweed-Albert Bandjalang, is an Australian Aboriginal language spoken by the Yugambeh living in South-East Queensland between and within the Logan River basin and the Tweed River basin, bounded to the east by the Pacific Ocean (including South Stradbroke Island) and in the west by the Teviot Ranges and Teviot Brook basin. Yugambeh is dialect cluster of four dialects, one of four such clusters of the Bandjalangic branch of the Pama–Nyungan language family. A poorly attested variety called ''Ngarahgwal'' may belong to Yugambeh or to one of the other Bandjalang clusters. Ellen van Neerven (born 1990) is an Aboriginal Australian author, educator and editor. They are queer and non-binary. Their first work of fiction, ''Heat and Light'' (2013), won several awards, and in 2019 Van Neerven won the Queensland Premier's Young Publishers and Writers Award. Their second collection of poetry, ''Throat'' (2020), won three awards at the 2021 New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards, including Book of the Year.
