Municipality Of Makole
The Municipality of Makole (; sl, Občina Makole) is a municipality in the traditional region of Styria in northeastern Slovenia. The seat of the municipality is the town of Makole. Makole became a municipality in 2006. In October 2006 Alojz Gorčenko was elected mayor. Geography The municipality of Makole has just under 40 percent of the working population. It is located in the Dravinja Valley on the western edge of Haloze at the end of Jelovec Creek ( sl, Jelovški potok). The municipality is on the border between the Drava Valley and Celje region. It also borders the municipalities of Rogaška Slatina and Majšperk. Tourism Today, Makole is a municipality with tourist attractions and with opportunities for development and a rich cultural and natural heritage, including Štatenberg mansion, numerous springs, karst caves, and vineyards. Stopno, Makole
Stopno () is a small village on the left bank of the Dravinja River in the Municipality of Makole in northeastern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Drava Statistical Region. Name Stopno was attested in historical sources as ''Stopendorf'', ''Steppendorf'', and ''Ztopendorf'' (all in 1265–1267), and as ''Zemstamph'' in 1271. The name ''Stopno'' is derived from the Slovene common noun ''stopa'' ' stamp mill', referring to agricultural or other activity. As such, it is related to place names such as '' Stopče'' and '' Stope''. History Archaeological excavations prove that the Stopno area has been inhabited since prehistoric times; in 1995, many fragments of pottery from the Late Iron Age were found. Stari Grad (, german: Sct. Anna) is a settlement in the Municipality of Makole in northeastern Slovenia. It lies in the hills above the right bank of the Dravinja River. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Drava Statistical Region. Name The name of the settlement was changed from ''Sveta Ana'' (literally, 'Saint Anne') to ''Stari Grad'' (literally, 'old castle') in 1955. The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms.
