The Municipality of Rhineland is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The RM had a population of 5,945 as of the 2016 Canada Census. Rural Municipality Of Stanley
Stanley is a rural municipality (RM) in the province of Manitoba in Western Canada. It is located in the southern part of the province, along its border with the state of North Dakota in the United States. Since 1876, the area made up part of the Mennonite West Reserve. The municipality has a population of 8,969 as of the 2016 Canada Census. The cities of Winkler and Morden lie geographically within the municipality but are separate urban municipalities. Etymology The municipality is named for The Lord Stanley of Preston, 16th Earl of Derby, Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893, namesake for the Stanley Cup, which he donated. Pembina County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. At the 2020 census its population was 6,844. The county seat is Cavalier. History For thousands of years, various indigenous peoples inhabited the area along the Pembina and Red rivers. At the time of European contact in the 16th century, the dominant tribes were the Assiniboine and the Lakota (or Sioux, as the French colonists called them). Montcalm (french: Municipalité rurale de Montcalm) is a rural municipality (RM) in the province of Manitoba in Western Canada. The Canada 2016 Census reported a population of 1,260 persons, a decrease from the 1,309 reported in the 2011 Census. Geography The RM has an area of 469.41 km2 (181.24 sq mi). The Canada–United States border opposite Pembina County, North Dakota forms a small part of Montcalm's southern boundary; there is no direct road link between the RM and county. Neche–Gretna Border Crossing
The Neche–Gretna Border Crossing connects the cities of Neche, North Dakota and Gretna, Manitoba on the Canada–United States border. North Dakota Highway 18 on the American side joins Manitoba Highway 30 on the Canadian side. The Alberta Clipper pipeline crosses the border nearby. Flooding The surrounding flat and low lying land exposes the location to frequent flooding. The raised road prevents water from encroaching onto the Canadian side, but the US side is not so fortunate. This crossing is frequently closed due to flooding of the Pembina River, most recently in 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2017. Altona, Manitoba
Altona is a town in southern Manitoba, Canada, about 100 km south-west of Winnipeg and 158 km north of Grand Forks, North Dakota. The population at the 2011 Census was 4,123 residents. Old Altona was founded in 1880 by Plautdietsch-speaking Mennonites from the Russian Empire. It is surrounded by the Municipality of Rhineland. Much of the surrounding area is devoted to farming and agriculture-based business.
