Municipalities In The Balearic Islands
The Balearic Islands are a provinces of Spain, province and autonomous community in Spain and lie in the Mediterranean Sea east of mainland Spain. They are divided into 67 municipalities - 53 on the island of Mallorca (Majorca), 8 on the island of Menorca (Minorca), 5 on the island of Eivissa (Ibiza) and 1 comprising the island of Formentera. The municipalities are grouped into 9 ''comarques'' ("comarcas" in Castillian Spanish) - six on the island of Mallorca (Palma de Mallorca, Serra de Tramuntana, Raiguer, Pla de Mallorca, Migjorn and Llevant), while the other islands each form one comarque. In the table below, Serra de Tramuntana and Pla de Mallorca are abbreviated to "Serra" and "Pla" respectively. The Catalan language, Catalan form is the sole official one. Banyalbufar is a municipality on the Spain, Spanish Balearic Islands, Balearic island of Majorca. The town of the same name is the administrative seat of the municipality. It borders the municipalities of Estellencs, Puigpunyent, Esporles, and Valldemossa. Geography The municipality of Banyalbufar has an area of 18.1 km2 and lies next to the Serra de Tramuntana mountain off the C-710 along the road from Andratx to Valldemossa. Artà
Artà is one of the 53 independent municipalities on the Spanish Balearic island of Majorca. The small town of the same name is the administrative seat of this municipality in the region (''Comarca'') of Llevant. Population In 2008 the municipality of Artà had a population of 7,113 recorded residents within an area of . This equates to 50.9 inhabitants per km2. In 2006 the percentage of foreigners was 13.2% (890), of which Germans made up 3.9% (262). In 1991 there were still 136 illiterates in the municipality. 1,292 inhabitants had no education, 1,675 only a primary school certificate and 1,210 had secondary school leaving certificates. Ariany () is a small municipality on Majorca, one of the Balearic Islands, Spain. It has an area of 22.72 km ² with 839 inhabitants in 2008, 763 of which lived in the main town. Dragonera
Sa Dragonera () is an uninhabited islet in the Balearic Islands, Spain, located just off the west coast of Majorca. It is currently a natural park. Geography Geologically speaking, Dragonera is an emerged part of the geologic system running southwest-northeast in the Iberian Peninsula. This runs from the Málaga province through Cap de la Nau and then gets submerged under the Mediterranean Sea. It surfaces again to form the island of Ibiza, the Tramuntana Range in the island of Majorca and Sa Dragonera itself. The silhouette of the mountain range vaguely resembles a dragon, hence its name. Andratx () is a Municipalities of Spain, municipality on Mallorca, one of the Balearic Islands, along the Mediterranean east coast of Spain. It is located on the southwest tip of the island. Port d'Andratx, located a few miles south of Andratx, is an exclusive resort. History The town of Andratx is ancient and until recently was mainly inhabited by local Majorcan people. Algaida is a municipality on the Spanish Balearic island of Majorca. It has an area of 89.70 km2 with 4,528 inhabitants (). Alcúdia
Alcúdia () is a municipality and township of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It is the main tourist centre in the North of Majorca on the eastern coast. It is a large resort popular with families. Most of the hotels are located in Port d'Alcúdia and Platja d'Alcúdia, along the long beach that stretches all the way to Ca'n Picafort. In Alcúdia, the old town is well preserved with houses dating back to the 13th century. The old town is surrounded by a medieval wall.
