Kalyan-Dombivli is a twin city and it comes under Mumbai metropolitan region and it is a municipal corporation with its headquarters located in Kalyan, India, Kalyan in Thane district in the Indian States and territories of India, state of Maharashtra. It was formed in 1982 to administer the twin townships of Kalyan, India, Kalyan and Dombivli. Kalyan, India, Kalyan has a history of over 700 years. Twin cities are a special case of two neighboring cities or urban centres that grow into a single conurbation – or narrowly separated urban areas – over time. There are no formal criteria, but twin cities are generally comparable in status and size, though not necessarily equal; a city and a substantially smaller suburb would not typically qualify, even if they were once separate.
