Munawar Iqbal
Munawar Iqbal (born 27 February 1948 in Lahore) is a former Pakistani professional tennis player. He was 16 when he first played for Pakistan at the Davis Cup, first competing in 1964. Between 1964 and 1978 Iqbal contested 10 career singles finals and won 8 titles. He also won a tennis bronze medal at the 1974 Asian Games. Grand Slams Iqbal played his first tournament at the Lowther tournament at Barnes in 1964. In 1968 he reached his first tournament final at the Carmarthenshire Championships at Carmarthen losing to Ray Keldie. He won his first title at the Budleigh Salterton tournament in 1969 against John de Mendoza. The same year he won the Central Grass Court Championships at Lahore. In 1970 he played at ten tournaments and won titles at the Cranleigh Open, the Exmouth Open and a second title at Budleigh Salterton. He was also a finalist at the Ilkley Open. Davis Cup
The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team. 1974 Asian Games
The 7th Asian Games ( fa, بازیهای آسیایی ۱۹۷۴) were held from 1 to 16 September 1974 in Tehran, Imperial State of Iran. The Aryamehr Sports Complex was built for the Games. The Asian Games were hosted in the Middle East for the first time. Tehran, the capital of Iran, played host to 3,010 athletes coming from 25 countries/NOCs, the highest number of participants since the inception of the Games. Fencing, gymnastics and women's basketball were added to the existing disciplines. The games were known for the use of state-of-the-art technology, from synthetic track to photo-finish cameras. Saeed Meer, (born 25 November 1947, in Meerut), the former Pakistan No. 2 tennis player, had a successful Davis Cup career, with a 26–14 win–loss record. Career Meer played his first tournament at the East of England Championships in 1968. In April 1972 he won his first tournament at the Karachi Open against Meer Mohammed Khan. In the summer of 1972 he was touring in Great Britain and won the West Warwickshire Open at Solihull, England against the Nigerian player Thompson Onibokun.
