Mumtaz Shanti
Mumtaz Shanti (28 May 1926 – 19 October 1994) was a popular actress in Indian and Pakistani Cinema during 1940s and 1950s. She was known as ''The Jubilee Girl'' because of her roles in films '' Basant'' and '' Kismet''. She worked in films including '' Mangti'' (1942), '' Basant'' (1942), '' Badalti Duniya'' (1943), '' Kismet'' (1943), ''Dharti Ke Lal'' (1946), '' Ghar Ki Izzat'' (1948) and '' Aahuti'' (1950). Early life Mumtaz was born in 1926 in Dinga, in the Gujrat District of the Punjab Province of British India into a Punjabi Muslim family. Mumtaz's mother died when she was very young and her aunt took care of her. Mumtaz's uncle encouraged her to learn singing and dancing when she was visiting Lahore Wali Sahib spotted her and then she went to Calcutta and worked in ''Sohni Kumharan'' in 1937. Basant (1942 Film)
''Basant'' () is a 1942 pre-partition Indian romantic musical film directed by Amiya Chakrabarty, produced by Bombay Talkies and starring Mumtaz Shanti and Madhubala along with Ulhas. It revolves around Uma (Shanti), who is left to dance on stage for money when her husband (Ulhas) abandons her. ''Basant'' marked the Hindi film debut of Shanti, who was already a celebrated star in Punjabi film industry. However, the film is largely remembered as the first screen appearance of Madhubala, who played an uncredited role of daughter to Shanti and later became a leading star in the 1950s and early 1960s. The film was theatrically released on 29 July 1942 and was praised by critics for the performances of actors, music and direction. It was major box office success and the highest-grossing film of 1942. The film had a 76-week run in the theatres. ''Aakraman'' () is a 1975 Hindi war film, produced by Jagdish Kumar and directed by J. Om Prakash.
