Mulund
Mulund (Pronunciation: uluɳɖ is a suburb in the north-east of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is also a railway station on the Central Railway line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway. It is also the first railway station of Mumbai Suburban district on the central railway line. After this, Thane railway station comes under Thane district. It is nestled alongside the foothills of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park with easy access to the Eastern Express Highway and Navi Mumbai through the Mulund- Airoli Bridge. Mulund marks the end of Mumbai city. History Mulund's history is said to date back to the time of the Mauryan Empire. Referred to at that time as Muchalind, its name changed to Mul-Kund which then modified to its present name. At one point in time, the name Manglapuri was also associated with it. Mulund Railway Station
Mulund is a railway station on the Central Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network. Mulund railway station is connected via the Central Railway to South Bombay and remote places like Khopoli and Kasara. History Mulund station was built to serve the suburb of Mulund, which was laid out in the 1920s. In the 1970s a new goods terminal was constructed at Mulund to handle increased volumes of freight. On 13 March 2003 a bomb exploded on a train pulling into Mulund station at 21:45 hrs. 10 people were killed and 70 injured. Layout Mulund is a stop for slow local trains as well as most fast local trains on the Central line of the Mumbai suburban network. Airoli Bridge
The Airoli Bridge is a bridge in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region of India. It was constructed to establish a direct road link between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Structure The Afcons Infrastructure Ltd company of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group constructed the bridge and the project was executed by Vijay Shankar V. The bridge was made from 800 box girders. The 1.03 km bridge marked the development of the Airoli and Thane- Belapur belt. The MSRDC collects tolls on the bridge. The toll rates for small passenger cars is set at ₹40 & for Trucks & Buses s set at ₹130. Geographical significance A road link connecting Thane–Belapur road and Eastern Express Highway has been established by this bridge. Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Sanjay Gandhi National Park, also known as SGNP, is an protected area in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was established in 1969 with its headquarters situated at Borivali. The Mumbai Suburban Railway ( Marathi: मुंबई उपनगरीय रेल्वे) (colloquially called local trains or simply locals) consists of exclusive inner suburban railway lines augmented by commuter rail on main lines serving outlying suburbs to serve the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
