Multnomah County Justice Center
The Multnomah County Justice Center, or simply Justice Center, is a building located at 1120 Southwest 3rd Avenue in Downtown Portland, Oregon, downtown Portland, Oregon. The building was designed by ZGF Architects. It is adjacent to Plaza Blocks, Lownsdale Square. It houses Portland Police Bureau's Central Precinct on the bottom floors, followed by the Multnomah County Detention Center (one of the two county jails) and PPB's headquarters on the top floors. It also contains four court rooms of the Multnomah County Circuit Court, used mainly for arraignments. It was partially built with highway funds when Rocky Butte Jail was demolished to make way for Interstate 205 (Oregon–Washington), Interstate 205. Plaza Blocks
The Plaza Blocks, two courthouse squares known as Chapman Square and Lownsdale Square, are located in downtown Portland, Oregon, United States. The blocks are north of Terry Schrunk Plaza and east of City Hall. The northmost square is named after Daniel H. Lownsdale (1803—1862), a native Kentuckian who settled in Portland in 1845. The south square is named after legislator William W. Chapman (1808–1892), a Virginian settled in Portland in 1850. By 1900 Lownsdale Square, traditionally a male-only space, was a gay cruising destination, allowing a degree of deniability. It was simply called "the park". George Floyd Protests In Portland, Oregon
Starting in May 2020, demonstrations over the police murder of George Floyd were held in the city of Portland, Oregon, concurrent with protests in other cities in the United States and around the world. By July 2020, many of the protests, which had been held every day since May 28, drew more than 1,000 participants. Protests continued into August, September, and October 2020, often drawing hundreds.
