The Mulrooney Medal is an Australian rules football award for the best and fairest player in the AFL Canberra first-grade competition. It has been the premier individual award for Australian rules football in the Australian Capital Territory since 1936. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Neil Lewthwaite
Neil Lewthwaite (born 11 August 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Before he came to South Melbourne, Lewthwaite played for Ivanhoe Amateurs, in the Victorian Amateur Football Association. An Ivanhoe best and fairest winner in 1959, Lewthwaite was a member of the Victorian Amateurs team that competed in that year's AAFC Perth Carnival, then represented the VAFA again in 1960 and earned All-Australian selection. Lewthwaite made nine appearances for South Melbourne in the 1961 VFL season. For the rest of his career, Lewthwaite played for Acton in the Canberra Australian National Football League. Lewthwaite, who was playing coach from 1966 to 1968, remained at Acton until early in the 1972 season, when he retired after bringing up 200 games. Paul Feltham
Paul Feltham (born 1 October 1948) is a sport psychologist and former Australian rules footballer and coach. He is best known for a short stint as caretaker senior coach of the Brisbane Bears in 1989. Playing career Early in his career, Feltham played for Box Hill in the VFA in 1967, Eastlake Football Club in the ACTAFL and Balmain Football Club in the NSWAFL. His talent was his tough, courageous determination and his quick handball. Feltham played as a winger and midfielder North Melbourne from 1970 to 1976. He played in the 1974 VFL Grand Final and was one of the best players in North Melbourne Football Club's first Premiership in 1975. Acton Football Club
The Acton Football Club is a defunct Australian Rules Football club that played in the ACT AFL from 1924 to 1973. The club wore black and white colours, similar to the Swan Districts Football Club. Acton merged with Queanbeyan in 1952 but separated in 1958. Michael Demaine (1 March 1948 – 15 September 2013) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Demaine, who came from Mornington, was a wingman and half forward flanker. He made 10 appearances for Hawthorn in the 1965 VFL season. Keith Miller (born 14 February 1953) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Geelong Miller, a ruckman from Echuca, was at Geelong for one season, in 1974. On his league debut, in the opening round of the season against Footscray, Miller came on as a reserve in the last quarter. His only other appearance came in round three, when Geelong beat Melbourne at the MCG. Miller started the game on this occasion.
